I will not SMS or Text while driving unless it is really important, I do use Handsfree while talking, And only one hand on the laptop, again if it is important.

I know it is very dangerous, but it is sometimes hard to stop when you think, "...I'll just send this QUICK reply..."

As probably mentioned, some states including mine are already passing laws for hands-free mobile usage. It's a necessary thing.

I have to confess that traffic was so slow today that I pulled out my BB and played Spades on it while I inched forward. So no, I hope they don't pass rules about it. I would never attempt such a thing at speed though...

Not if using a headset. I do think folks are dangerous trying to hold the phone to their head and can't turn their head to look around.

I Think It Should Be The Same As California With Some Acceptions, One You Must Have A Headset To Talk And Drive, Too Many People Out There Drive And Talk And Get Into Accidents And All Types Of Sh@t, Ir Your 18-75 I Dont Think You Should Be Allowed To Drive And Talk Without A Headset...

With only two eyes, two ears and focusing on the zillions of things going on outside the vehicle, I can rely on voice mail to let me know what I missed while I had two hands on the wheel. I want to live to enjoy my BB!

it is dangerous personally to drive and write emails...
I have been guilty of it and almost got in to an accident...after that i just stopped...
but responding to phone calls is alright..as long as you got your headphones attached and in your ear and both hands on the wheel..
emailing and driving can be done easily (together) but you are bound to give less attention to one of them...and you cannot afford it to be the later...
I love that I get my emails instantly but its okay now...I can always stop and pull over and see who emailed me

sadly i was pulled over and got a $95 ticket for using my blackberry. I sent the ticket in as not guilty. I claimed, "Its a Blackberry". I had to pay it anyway!

You shouldn't have to use your hand to hold a phone. Get a wireless headset. A law would be next to impossible to enforce.

We should not text while driving (even though we all have done it, from time to time...)

I am guilty of driving while texting and emailing. I try to do it only at stop lights but not always.

I think there should be a law against it just like if you are driving without a seatbelt. Although it will be hard to prove whether you are texting or just getting to a contact to call

what people dont understand is that its not just illegal to talk on your phone, the same laws say you cant read, eat, drink, do makeup. All the normal things that people do in their vehicles. Gotta say its illegal where I am but I still do it, oh well.

that wouldnt be the law, the law would basically be any use of the phone without a hands free device. this includes looking up contacts as well as talking on a nextel or speaker phone.

I tell my wife not to text me while she is driving with my son in the car. Then I text her or reply to an email she has sent me while I'm driving!

Most calls go to voice while I'm driving. If I take the call, the convo usually consists of "Hang on!" and then I pull over.

It should be illegal to text/type while driving. Speaking with hands-free arrangement should be legal.

It should be illegal to text or type while driving, and maybe even to speak w/o a hands free device or speakerphone. Talking on hands free or speakerphone should be allowed.

There are already laws against distracted driving, there does not need to be additional laws targeting specific behaviors/activites. Enforce the current laws.

I don't know if we need more laws but I do believe if you are driving you should use a hands free device it make it far less distracting
