It is the announcement of the Passport-Android version? I don't understand when people 'like you' ( no offence intended..) get an info from someone who signed NDA but don't wanna share.. I mean, there are tens of people who know what's gonna happen September,the 30th. Right? Nobody in BB knows you or know if the source know you..so what's the problem? Share that. It is not something that will hurt nobody knowing if there will be an announcement and what the announcement is about..

Depend on the app and if it is useful and is better than it's competitors.

But yeah very few weekend coders are going to get rich in the US market, as it has matured and the competition is pretty tough. But if you have a successful app with a 100k downloads a month, that is a different story.
