You know, in the official waiting room thread I joked about smuggling devices to the U.S. from the UK, but I'm seriously wondering how much it would actually cost. Can anyone who is knowledgeable in custom's duty confirm that there is 0 duty for importing mobile phones to the States? I used some online calculator and it shows that mobile phones are non-dutiable, want confirmation.

It would be an expensive proposition. 480/$760 for the device and an estimated 30/$50 for tracked and insured shipping that takes ~4 days. Or 70/$110 for next day tracked and insured.

Undoubtedly cheaper to send from Canada but I may have to send a device or two to the U.S. and I'm curious. Where I'm from (Caribbean), when it finally does reach it would likely cost ~ $1000 USD off contract at the local carriers and a smidgen (probably no more than $100) cheaper on contract, so probably not a bad deal.

I believe you can. But I don't understand, if you need some to go to the US, buy them from Canada and have them sent directly to wherever they need to go. If you need them, buy them in the UK.

Ridiculous. Ebay+PP fees is nearing $100 so I can understand selling at 1k, but 2k is just crazy. All power to them if they can get it sold, though.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Makes sense. However, now that I've seen a few Z10s sell for ridiculous prices on ebay, I'm interested in selling a few on ebay/CB forums, minus the ridiculous profits.

I would be interested, but I am due for an upgrade so it will only be $150 or so for me at March. :/
