According to this article from TechnoBuffalo - Samsung's startup Tizen OS already has more users than BlackBerry

Tizen - which Samsung has used on watches and cheaper phones, has taken 4th place in the Smartphone OS standings from BlackBerry. That's not entirely surprising, as Tizen phones are much cheaper than BB10 ones, but it is somewhat sad.

This makes BlackBerry's decision to go with Android on the Priv more understandable. BB10 phones are not selling, and continuing to rely on them would doom the company to an even earlier death. Hopefully, the Priv will sell enough to provide BlackBerry with enough income to keep it afloat. That may even benefit BB10 phone owners, as BlackBerry is not going to be able to support their phones if they're not in business. Yes, I know that BB10 is on life-support even if the Priv takes off, but at least they will continue to support it for a while.

Who knows? They may even choose to keep it going as an alternate OS.....like Samsung is doing with Tizen.
