Hey everyone.

I've noticed that some cars have USB connectors in them. My friend has a 2009 Honda Civic which has a USB connector for an iPhone. My brother has a USB connector that allows him to plug in a flash drive to play music.

Is it safe to use these USB connectors to charge your phone? Do the provide enough amperage?

I would also assume it was safe. But what about all those threads saying how important it is to use the right charger, that has enough current ?

The BlackBerry car charger outputs 1800mah, however the phone maxes out at ~1200mah. You need a minimum of ~700mah to charge properly.

Do all USB outputs provide the same mAh? If not, how can I figure out if my car provides enough?

On the Civic, the USB port is in the center console where CDs and other stuff is stored. On the Hyundai, there is a USB port built into the stereo deck on the dash.
