Um, get over it and find a plan b? Not sure what you want for an answer
outside of what has already been stated.
Easy! The one that does not serves their individual needs.. For some that will be
the BlackBerry, for some it will be something else.

RIM is getting $5 per month from non BB users on a BB data plan. It is free money. They have to do nothing.
If you had a restaurant that had bad food, but patrons came with food from other restaurants and you still made money off of liquor, as an owner, you would let it slide.7.1.0.391-Finally have mobile hot spot. Welcome to 2010 RIMM

I can't believe what I am reading...
Your right, until now RIM would get $5 per month from a non BB user on a BB data plan
BUT
Rogers is paying $5 to RIM when it doesn't have too....
That is $5 bux that can go to Rogers...
$5 bux extra per user that can go to it's balance sheet for investors...
THINK ABOUT IT!

I don't see where there is any issue. I have AT&T, and I used to have a BIS plan. I got to keep unlimited data when I switched plans (had to anyway, since my new device uses a microSIM). It was no big deal to me.

If I were to switch back to a BlackBerry, I would just need to contact AT&T and get a BIS plan again.
I do not see where it is RIM's fault or the carrier's fault for a customer getting the appropriate data plan for his or her device.--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

First of all I am not insisting all is well, but I am also not insisting this stupid
issue is going to lead to a mass exodus of users sufficient to collapse the mighty
Research In Motion.
You are the one who seems to be sure of how every user that is NOT YOU
will view this and what they will do. Fact is you can only speak for yourself.
Try doing that.Thanked by 2:Prince_Poppycock (07-26-2012), shaleem (07-26-2012)

This. Its all boiling down to Rogers not wanting to pay RIM $5 out of their own pocket for your non-BB on their network. I'm sure RIM would be happily collecting their $10 from the carriers for doing nothing..but despite what Rogers is saying (they'll put the blame anywhere else they can) it is totally their doing imo.

I can't believe this topic went on for 3 entire pages...
The message you received clearly says "please call us at 1 888 764-3771".
Google the number, and it leads you to Rogers Contact Number. The message is from Rogers.
The end. - 07-25-2012, 10:38 PM #44
As can you. Some users like yourself are happy with one device, while others such as E92Vancouver are not. Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean that others who are affected shouldn't be against it.
By no means am I saying that this will single-handedly collapse RIM, but I'm also saying that their use of separate data plans and the restrictions that those include will be another obstacle to overcome on their road to recovery. - 07-25-2012, 10:47 PM #45
You just are not paying attention are you. I have 3 devices listed in
my profile and in this thread I already stated I am a device switcher.

Outside of smartphone enthusiast forums, such as all of the Mobile Nations forums, there are probably not many folks who own multiple devices and switch between those devices regularly.
The average customer who does have more than one device probably has a personal device on a personal plan and a work device on a plan paid for by his/her employer.
Those "typical" customers would not even notice this so-called "restriction".--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

This reminds me of when AT&T announced they would perform data sweeps
to determine if users were using a smartphone that required a data plan and
if they did not have one would automatically add the appropriate plan.
Everyone predicted user outrage, mass defections and all manners of things
that by and large did not happen. This will be no different in my estimation.Thanked by:Laura Knotek (07-25-2012)

Give your thumbs a rest.
I used to respect this sight, but after viewing the constant dribble about how bad Berrys are and how bad RIM executive run the company...bla bla bla.
Holy crap! Give it a rest. If you dont like RIM or their product...Sell your stock in RIM and move on! Sell your Berry! Better yet! finish grade 12, get a degree in business, move to Ottawa and show them how to properly run a BILLION dollar multinational company...
Stop whining you cant use an iphone or Samsung on a RIM platform. Apple was built on propretory software and products.
Please remember, Blackberrys, Samsungs, iphones are just products. They are not kidneys and lungs. You will live without one!
They are not an extension of your personality. They are phones. They all make calls, they all send texts, play music, surf the web. They all work good.
I love my Blackberry products, but I also love my ipod and my Dell computer. This isnt a competition, its just stuff we use. Relax and try to say something positive, regardless of the brand. - 07-25-2012, 11:04 PM #49
I work in the Wireless industry and this is a Rogers policy not a RIM policy. You would be seeing a lot more carriers and media outlets reporting this if it were RIM.
Carriers pay for BB NOC access and Rogers does not charge customers extra for BIS access when getting a bucket data plan. They have two data SOCs for data, one for BB and one for non-BB. If you ask for a BB data plan you can today use it with any phone for data. If you ask for iPhone, Android, anything other then BB, you don't get BIS access. This work-around has been documented on HoFo for years. So Rogers is now taking a stand to help the bottom line by not paying for something you are not using.Thanked by 4:Branta (07-26-2012), E92Vancouver (07-26-2012), menaknow (07-26-2012), qbnkelt (07-26-2012)

I saw that when you posted it. You said you would be happy with one device. Others are not.
We can't predict what the result of all of this is going to be so let's just wait and see. In my opinion it won't be pretty, but we'll see.I've heard this before and it was a meaningless then as it is now. What happens
