Just wondering why do i see people putting airplane mode on while roaming? Don't people know you don't get charged for just leaving the network on? You get charged if u start texting and answering calls or use data..

You are right that, as far as texting and making/answering calls, you wont get charged for just having your phone on. I imagine most people aren't afraid of roaming charges for texts and calls, since they can easily control those (by just not doing it). Nowadays; however, there are so many apps and services on these devices that either poll for data or receive push data in the background. Unless you are 100% certain you have disabled, or are in control of, everything... then there is always the chance something could be using data. And since roaming data charges continue to be ridiculous ($20/MB on Verizon for some countries), most people rather err on the side of caution than be stuck with a $1000 bill.

True. But if you have data roaming off there will be no data for anything right?

I'm currently roaming on at&t from a z10 with a Rogers Sim. They offer 7.99/50mb every 24 hours which saves a lot of money

You can still get charged for receiving texts depending on your plan.

I have unlimited texting domestic plan so I won't get charged for receiving texts. But if I don't have data roaming on at all how can apps still use data? They can't. I have been using wifi and the network for data in the USA for 7.99 / 50mb..

You pay through the nose regardless. If you plan on being active with your phone in the States, getting a pay as you go SIM from one of the US carriers or signing up with Roam Mobility will be the better way to go.

Well I'm leaving today. Been here for only 2 days. Other 5 days I was on vacation.. I left my data roaming off but left on the mobile network. Been using the 7.99/ 50 MB and wifi. Only sent a few tests since it's 75 cents.. and no calls. Bought a plan for 50 for the Caribbean while I was there. That's it

I thought you get charged by connection fee too, regardless text call or not. Driving near the border is specially bad for incur charges.

No I called Rogers no such thing of connection fee. It's all the matter of answering a call or answering a text or using data. But data is cheap now for USA. 7.99 /50MB. Used to be 10.24 a MB :0
If you don't believe me feel free to call Rogers.
