Today in my intro to business class the professor lectured about patents. She gave us an example of two companies; RIM and NTPO(?).
NTPO got the idea of technology of blackberries first and filed for patent and was approved. Then RIM came out with blackberry in the market while their patent was pending.
NTPO sued RIM and they settled in court by RIM paying NTPO 620 million dollars for the patent and rights to continue marketing blackberry.
I thought it was interesting. Was it a good move by RIM? Haha I think so.

Wow thats awesome information!! Its crazy how many people actually think of the same idea at the same time (maybe not in this situation but... lets think posistivley) imagine how many people think of the same idea you do.
RIM and NTP Settle Suit
It was dicey enough at the time that my company with 100+ BlackBerrys switched us to Palm devices. I was able to switch back to my Curve in September 2008.
