I have lost all my contacts for the second time on BB Messenger. This happened because I installed a beta application that bricked my berry and required I reload so OS files with DM.

Anyway, I noticed (now for the second time) that when I first setup BB Messenger, it asks me for a password in case contacts are lost.

Well, I've lost 'em, now what good does that pw do me? It just asked me to choose a new one. There doesn't seem to be a way to restore contacts.

When i switch devices, and do a complete restore on my new device. All my BB Messenger contacts are also restored..
Not a device --> device restore.
Just a regular database restore, using a day or two old backup.ipd..

Well, I did a restore, and those contacts did come back, so that was helpful.

However, it still does not answer the question of what the password is for, and how you use it.
