    What is the best way to remove the shield? I searched for this info first and only came up with installation.

    Can it simply be peeled off? Does it leave residue?

    Just slowly pull it off the device like you would a sticker. The only difference is that the IS won't leave any residue behind. Then I would just go over the surface with a microfiber cloth.

    Since you specified IS doesn't, does that mean BSE does leave residue?

    No BSE does not leave residue. I have pulled one off on a Bold and a 8310 before and it did not.
