In a couple of days I'm heading over to the UK for two weeks. As this is a vacation and not a business trip it'll be my first visit in a long time where I won't be using a corporate SIM. I would like people's suggestions as to which carrier I should consider with the following criteria:

1) 1,000 Minutes voice preferably with long distance included. I probably won't use that much but better to be safe than sorry, and;
2) 2-3GB data. I use my phone to research everything, find places to visit or eat at.

That's it really. I'd like to try LTE over there but it's not essential, just an opportunity to compare services.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and I should add that reliability is more important than cost.

If you have the STL100-3 Z10, the SQN100-1 or the SQN100-5 Q10, you won't get LTE in the UK. No problems with 3G/HSPA+ though.

If you have the SQN100-3 Q10 (i.e. the one Rogers sells,) that will get LTE, as well as 3G/HSPA+

Definitely look at EE plans as there network seems to be the fastest in London & Three with there all-you-can eat data plans..

Depends where you will be staying. I recently went to Scotland and Vodafone was a pure failure. No data whatsoever except when I reached large cities. However, my friend's EE worked very well.

Generally, you get excellent reception in cities on all networks, but if you're staying in a remote area, stay away from Vodafone and O2.

Three is probably the network I would use. You can pick up a sim with all you can eat + 2000 minutes for 20. And they don't charge extra to use 4g

Oh a quick tip. When you arrive at the place you are staying, go on the Internet and check for area coverage. It should tell you which carriers work in that area

I have an STL100-3 Z10 that I'll be using, it's not a big deal about LTE I'm quite happy with 3G and 3G+ for my use. People keep telling me how slow my carrier (Telus) is on LTE it would have been interesting to do a comparison.

I'll be in a remote-ish town on the South West coast, sort of equidistance between Plymouth and Exeter with lots of small towns in between, I'm not anticipating signal issues but it would be nice to know ahead of time.

Sounds like a toss up between EE and Three to me, I'll check out their tariffs when I get there.

Looks like Three doesn't have 4G in Exeter area nor Plymouth area, so very unlikely it will have it anywhere in between. Same with Vodafone and O2.

EE looks good though. Everything else looks kinda spotty.

Ended up going with T-Mobile/EE. I didn't get the minutes I needed but the data package was pretty decent. In fact data test speeds look great! Thanks for the advice everyone.

I've got to say though that the signal's quite flakey, it constantly jumps between H+, 3G and G even when still and in an area that has a strong signal. Ah well, it works at least.
