Ok here is the question its about 3G it seem slike everyone is moving over to 3G and from what I hear it is super fast online, IF and when RIM Moves over to 3G Do you know if that something you will need to buy a new unit for or an upgrade in the OS can fix it.. Maybe no one can answer this questiong but I figure CRACKBERRY is the # 1 Community someone can give me some insight on this 3G thing.

3G is dependent on the Phone and the Network. That's why not all phones are "3G" capable. An OS upgrade might do something about it, but i'm not sure.

Anyway, 3G isn't all that great. At least with EDGE, its the same speed as crusing. Only Downloads are a little faster on a 3G Network. I have a BlackJack II and a Curve, and the Curve loads up webpages much faster, while the BlackJack II downloads files faster.

It's not an OS fix. 3G requires a 3G chipset in the phone's circuitry.

I agree. Hardware will need to be replaced/added. OS updates only won't do the trick.

3G cannot be upgraded by OS. It must come on the BB hardware, but there are no 3G currently available just yet.

Correction. The 87** series has 3G. And supposedly the new 90** series will have 3G as well. Can't wait to get my hands on the 90** series...

To add some devices can already have the 3g chip set and need a firmware upgrade. In the case of all Tmo & AT&T berries, they do not have the hardware and a firmware upgrade would be useless for 3g speeds.

Somebody here said that browsing speed between 3G and the regular is just the same. The difference is on the download speed only where 3G wins.

for 3G to work you need 3G compatible hardware, there is no alternative except to change the phone if you want 3G to work on your device.

OS upgrade cannot make the non 3G handset capable of 3G.
