I am using BlackBerry q10 on VZW. I want the latest OS 10.3.1 but VZW never tells or knows when they might push out the update. So I wanted to know if this would work. Unlock my phone and then update the OS using the 10.3.1 Autoloader. Would that work or not?

You don't need to unlock your phone to use an autoloader, just make sure to use the verizon one.

The only time you need to unlock your handset is if 1) you purchased it from a Carrier and 2) you're moving off that Carrier to a new one. Verizon and Sprint in the USA are unique in that they have strange networks that the rest of the world doesn't really know about all that well so there is little point unlocking one of their phones anyway. AT&T or any of the Canadian carriers (or any GSM only carrier) would make sense to unlock some day.

Anyway: For what you're trying to do you're all set! The autoloaders are a bit tricky only in that they reset-to-factory. That is you'll be starting fresh. You may want to research a "blitz" method instead because it keeps all your settings, call logs, SMS history, BBM chats, etc.
