PS3 connection to Z10 with DLNA?
Has anyone had any luck connecting to a Sony PS3 with the "Play On" feature of the Z10?
I can see the blackberry icon on the PS3 main screen, but the z10 does not show the PS3 when I select the "Play On" option. What am I doing wrong?

Just tried it. You're right it doesn't work. Maybe the PlayStation doesn't support remote devices telling it what to play?

Interested in how this turns out.

I have seen in other posts that people have connected without issue -(Are the Z10 & Q10 DNLA Certified?)
Might have to play around with the settings - 02-10-2013, 01:48 AM #9
Has anyone figured this out? If so instructions would be great!

I have the same issue with my PS3. The BB10 doesn't recognize it (unknown terminal) and therefore can't "Play on" it. I can browse my Z10 from my PS3 and that works.
However, it's a different story from my 360. It's fully detected by my Z10 and "Play on" works beautifully, no hassle. It - just - works. - 02-10-2013, 08:11 PM #14
There's a menu setting in the PS3 which appears intended to let other devices control it remotely. Anyone know if that refers to DLNA? The generic reference to "mobile phone" and "PC" make me think it would be a standard, not a Sony-specific thing. (I know little about my PS3 aside from the fact it plays DVDs nicely...)

I researched this after learning about play on... as I have PS3.
Turns out that PS3 is only a DLNA media "Player" and not a media "Renderer". In other words, PS3 is to blame here - it does not support this. I can however browse Z10 videos from PS3 and play them that way.

Yea...how do you set it up??? Nice that it can only be browsed from the ps3 and not using the phone but how do I even get that far???

There's a post in the crackberry blogs that talks about this and shows how. It uses a bold 99xx and you use the screen and keyboard just like on a play book... Crap I just remembered its via bluetooth. But I also know as a media player thru wifi ps3 can access your files on your phone or computer. It's pretty cool.

I was able to get it working! Basically what I did was I enabled Media Server Connection on my PS3 and then allowed my Z10 to share files with my PS3 (Play On -> Media Sharing Settings -> Devices). Then I hit "Search for Media Servers" on my PS3 under either the Music or Video section while play on was searching for devices and voila! Once it says that it has found the media server, hit Z10 and you should be able to see the files on your Z10 (Music, Photos, Videos)

Play on feature works great in the X box 360

Clarification:
Media Server is not the same as DLNA, the PS3 screwed us over with a lame version of DLNA. It cannot render the video, or music being sent to it so its not detected. It's just a DLNA client and cant act as a server like the XBOX360.
Play On doesn't even find my PS3

First is the xbox, and second is the ps3. I think the video has to be mpeg for play on to show. I haven't tried with an MP3, I will when I get home tonight. - 02-27-2013, 04:40 PM #24
Tried it with WD TV Live Hub DLNA device. The play on feature works perfectly.
