You can get the Priv for nearly the same price as the Dtek50. It's obvious which one you should get.

I think it's aimed at businesses, thus black only.

I have a Priv and haven't had a chance to use the new model yet. I feel with the price of the Priv right around 350-400 on Craigslist and eBay, that's a pretty good device for the money.

Neither one, much better phones on the market and some have a BOGO tied in, I lobe BlackBerry but economics are against them.

Just watched the DTEK talk on the home screen and they say 17 hours of mixed use. They also confirmed both hardware and software encryption and that the Priv shares the same security features (hardware and software).

On startup they generate a checksum and phone home to compare.

Anyway, sounds pretty great whichever phone you have, security wise.

The bones of the DTEK are TLC but BlackBerry adds "special sauce" at the manufacturing stage.

Not necessarily. The dtek50 is a lot lighter and thinner. Performance is still very good too. Form factor is important to many.
The Priv is a better buy. Even with the keyboard, it's not heavy.

Yes, I own one. But it is 42% heavier and 32% thicker than the DTEK50.

Wow! That's a lot. I had no idea how light and thin the DTEK is.

IMHO it should be thicker and heavier with a bigger battery. But I haven't actually held one yet (and probably never will... BlackBerry phones are more rare than winning lottery tickets where I live).

I just purchased an used (purchased February, 2016), unlocked un-branded Priv with Seidio case, BlackBerry PRIV Leather Smart Flip Case, two quick charges and Priv Sync Pod for $350 with free shipping and think that I had a pretty good deal. I really wanted a physical keyboard after using the Passport for such a long time and I am looking forward to having all of my android apps working smoothly.

I have given a lot of thought to this and in fact, seriously considering the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but the price was way to high for me to test out an Android system and the Galaxy did not have a physical keyboard.

Hopefully, I will not be disappointed in making the transition from to Passport to the Priv!

Can't wait to receive the phone and put it in service!!!

And yet, it's not that heavy. I'm not saying DTEK50 is a bad choice. I like the look of it, but it's price too high. It should've had a competitive price against the Idol 4. But it's 50% more than the Idol 4.

BlackBerry baked the goods into the hardware and software, and then maintains the software. TLC just slapped a free copy of android in. I really don't think it should try to match the Idol 4. BlackBerry doesn't make its own phones, so it can't compete with manufacturers on prices.

    Just my humble opinion.

New Privs are on Ebay for $299. At that price point, it is the better buy.

Exactly, you're paying for the improved software/security features. I don't think it's a terrible price for what you get, but we'll have to wait to see what the general public thinks.

So how does BlackBerry get compensated for all of its development? Look at the BlackPhone 2 which is still $799.

The hardening and the BlackBerry apps are a good value at $100 in my books.

BlackBerry has got to make money somewhere, and Blackberry Messenger stickers is not going to do it. I think the price difference for what you get is a bargain. I think that sort of price difference has been added to the cost of their devices for several years. Again, just my opinion.

I don't use the pkb on my Priv as much as I thought I would. I'd like to shed some weight. Hopefully the Argon exists.
As someone who had never used a pkb I find I use it a lot more than I thought I would
