Z10 is free on most carriers right now as far as pricing goes. Z3 is the lower end curve version of touch screen? Why not get the Z10 now and not wait?

for some people, the price of a phone is an important factor in their overall purchase decision. if the price is right, it could tilt the balance in BlackBerry's favor. and for people like me who buy the device without a contract, it carries more weight.

A LOT of people don't want a contract (required for the $0 phones). I'll probably be getting my next BB directly from BlackBerry's new Canadian online store. I still owe about $300 on the subsidy for my Z10 and I've had it over a year from Rogers. I can get a new one, right now, for $300.

They said the Q5 was not even going to be sold in Canada in the beginning. It came out shortly after. I believe the Z3 will be available world wide once the LTE version is produced.

It will show up in North America and most people will opt for this phone over a Z10 because of screen size, price, and battery life. If they do it right there will be an increase in revenue and market share. Motorola is doing great with the moto g...

Because the Z3 has a 5 inch screen with better battery.

How is the screen better, it will likely have a lower resolution and lower pixel density compared to the Z10.

Good to hear, good to hear

RimBerry have been appallingly bad at pricing their devices hitherto so let's hope they don't follow their regular MO and screw up first time round again.

Yeah. I doubt the price will be low enough to be worth giving up the z10's screen size and other features. I bet having only 1.5 gb of ram won't be fun either.

You would have paid the higher price direct from BB when you got your Z10 anyway. The difference of a year is why it's half as much.

Agreed. This is why price is important. I hate carrier contracts.

IMO I believe that a good competitive low priced phone will help BlackBerry a lot because people can afford to buy it unlocked. This means that BlackBerry doesn't have to worry as much about carrier support because people can use their unlocked phones on any carrier.

If a majority of BlackBerry phones are sold unlocked then BlackBerry can rely on carriers a lot less for sales and support. It should also allow BlackBerry to give direct OS updates to customers instead depending on the carriers. IMO that last reason alone is worth buying unlocked.

It doesn't work that way though! Updates will still go through carriers irrespective of whether the devices are locked or not...BlackBerry needs to bypass the testing phase and release updates directly (like you said)...but for the time being, unlocked devices will only get updates when their carriers push them
