There is a lot of debate amongst CBNation about the usefulness of a TrackPad on BB10 devices. Apparently, there's no debate at BB headquarters.

At the end of the day, it will come down to revenues.

So, this is a pretty simple poll, with a FEW guidelines that I hope you will take into consideration before you answer.

Many of us have BB10 devices. I have a Z10, and have used the Q10 a bit (but don't own one). My previous BB device was a Torch 9810 (LOVED the device, the OS... well, liked it, but not as much as BB10).

If you are locked into a multi-year contract and have no intention to buy a new device no matter what marvelous innovations arise during the span of your contract, please choose "No" in the poll.

But, if you are like me, and would abandon your current BB10 device in a second if you could buy a BB10 device with a TrackPad (and, my preference, hard Call send / end buttons, too) even if it meant selling your current BB10 device for a fraction of it's original cost and buying the TrackPad-equipped device unsubsidized, would you do it?

Or, if you haven't yet purchased a BB10 device, would you CHOOSE a TrackPad equipped device over one that did NOT have a TrackPad, even if it was larger / thicker just because of the extra buttons?

Alternatively: would you swtich to a COMPETING platform if a device running, say, Android or Windows Phone was released that had a trackpad? I'm not going to ask about switching AWAY from BlackBerry, because, well, there's no point switching to an INFERIOR operating system.

    (EDIT: Check this one out:

(no, it's a pretty good example of how a virtual trackpad could be accomplished: now, BB: Build it into OS 10.2-ish.)

Original Android Devices started with a trackball (HTC Dream, HTC Nexus One and a few others), and they dropped in favour of full touch screens. So to be honest, I don't think I could go back to a TrackPad

I only miss the trackpad because I feel that text selection in BB10 is still poor. And I would much rather they improved the text selection. I dont need my swipe gestures from the bottom clashing with the trackpad. Also I like the clean look on the front of my Z10.

Yes. I'd buy a BlackBerry with a trackpad and hard call send / end buttons in a blue minute.

Kill the trackpad.... we don't need it anymore. BB10 is awesome as is. And FYI, Trackpad=LESS SCREEN

Seriously? Your best argument against is the loss of about .25 inches of screen?

I think BlackBerry should release a new phone with os 4 on it.

I would like the z10 with a track pad.

Would it be too much to ask for as an option. Like having bottom plastic pop out and replacing it with a track pad fitted plastic plate. Sell it as an accessory. I would gladly pay $29.99 for it.

I disagree: it may mean a slightly longer / thicker / heavier phone, which I am totally OK with, but doesn't have to affect the screen at all.

No. The track pad is a step back. I have found that with time the full touch concept on a larger screen is faster and far more intuitive.

Yes absolutely. It's perfect for fine maneuvers and fast selection. Nothing have ever come close to being as fast as the shift TrackPad select.

I tend to agree but then a track pad is the best thing for text selection.
How about a looping gesture from that bottom of the screen to bring up/remove a virtual track pad at the bottom uf the screen. I'd even pay for a virtual track pad app if BlackBerry didn't want to include it in core os.

My choice would be that "No, I don't think BB10 will work well with a trackpad & and it is definitely more than usable after getting used to it. But there are still improvements that could be made."

Conditional Yes. I love my BBOS device, specifically with a trackpad. I had the 9650 when I moved to a touchscreen Android device. It was a particularly annoying few months of text selection and typing. I even have the Playbook right now and I can tell you there are times when I want to throw it against a wall. (I then just resort to remote with my Curve.) Touchscreens do make things easier to a degree but with the screen size I would work with and how I use the device, just give me a trackpad. Needless to say, if I had the option of trackpad text manipulation over trying to go fishing, I would choose the trackpad any day. Now, if I had to didn't get the trackpad, I would at least ask for the call and end buttons and a scroll wheel.

I think that the Q10 does not have a big enough screen and could benefit from the missing buttons. The Z10 already has a just a very average screen to case size ratio so I would not want to add any length to the device. The extra length added on to the Q10 would not adversely effect its ergonomics. Having a trackpad is not a must have but it is a nice to have. I think BB should have and could have engineered a bigger screen Q10 but they stuck with the square screen format.
