Simple question about RIMs marketing/advertising

Marketing is not even worth mentioning, unless it is to say how terrible it is. I haven't seen marketing missteps like this since friggan Pepsi Clear or New Coke.

Lets hope the new team being put together can focus and get a slick marketing campaign together.
My advice (for what its worth), is to Focus People..... No more glow in the dark bikes; no more globe trotting music exec's; no more of the stuff that 'normal' people don't do. Not everyone one in business is hoping on a plane to travel the globe; not everyone is in the middle of a 'big' deal worth millions. - 05-08-2012, 09:12 AM #5

There is definitely room for improvement. I haven't seen a UK BlackBerry ad for some time. So let's hope RIM get it right with BB10

The commercials are pretty bad sometimes but i must admit they do put together some nice 2-3 minute "pitches" that you would show off at presentations or run on the device at the store.
Stuff like this is awesome compared to their commercials IMO

Internationally RIM's marketing campaigns have been successful! Here in the USA it has been almost non existent! First RIM will need to get the BB10 software right and have the right selection of phones ie. size, we do not need another 4.3" phone, 5.3" maybe!

Ok..lets ignore reality

Reality is the shift in the market needs. The #1 priority for phone consumers has changed, and RIM hasn't. It changed from contact, to communications and then to infotainment. RIM has both risen and fallen along with what it does best, communications.
But sure, yes lets blame marketing!.. blaming marketing is the last resort when you produce products folks dont want..but lets do it anyway!
1. its all marketing's fault that RIM products are pre-announced by 9 months and still come out late
2. its marketings fault that nobody wants a 2.6" screen anymore
3. Its marketings fault that the CEOs killed the business overnight by pre-announcing by a year or more the death of the operating system
4. Its marketings fault that the market needs prioritise infotainment over communications
So, to all the *experts* .. exactly how DO you market a phone with a small screen that nobody wants, running an ugly obsolete operating system that is technically, visually and functionally so far behind the curve its laughable?..
...and dont take this as a troll post, i love my BB but i KNOW i am in the tiny minority in the marketplace.Thanked by:MartyMcfly (05-09-2012)

Tell us how you really feel... don't hold back

In all fairness however i have to agree with you 100%. it all goes in hand. marketing, management, product, all one package that with some hard work, RIM can turn this around. New CEO, CFO, CMO and BB10 with Playbook. A new look with a new team; strongly motivated to suceed where the previous group failed. I hope; because i really love my BB

Whenever I see a BB add it is always a national add here in the USA. How about different adds for different markets...ie..Boulder CO is much different than NYC. Two different places and should be two different adds. My 2cents.
