I have decided to buy my dad an iPhone 5 until BB10 comes along. He uses BBM all the time and it is truly the only BB feature he will miss. Instead of just keeping a separate phone for BBM, what are the options for BBM. Cheapest as possible. I Live in Pennsylvania so the provider has to have decent coverage. He will use probably no minutes on this phone. I have several unlocked blackberries to use and do not mind buying a new one if required. I was hoping the playbook would have native BBM by now, but thats a NOGO. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you can get a Boost Mobile Curve 9310 with unlimited BBM for $45 a month.

Verizon used to have a BlackBerry Social plan for $10. 75MB of data that you can use for BBM and other "social" applications (but not email.) Details here.

I'm not sure if this plan survived advent of shared data plans.

they still have it but you need to have a monthly minute plan also, minimum 39.99 which i dont need.
