Today, at school, there was a pep rally, and i was recording some videos, basically the whole time. About 6 min before school ended a lady came up to me and took my phone and told me that it would me in the freshman principal's office. Went there, the lady told me to go to the main office, meanwhile the buses are outside, about to leave. Me and my friend rush to the main office to get my phone, and walk outside as the buses are leaving. I manage to get on my bus, but when i look through my phone, there is only one video from a week ago, and that day i recorded like 5 videos. First of all i would like to ask if they are A) aloud to look through your phone, and B) if they are aloud to erase things on your phone.

Second, Im not too good with my blackberry, i just got it, so this question might seem dumb but is there any way that i would be able to get those videos back? You would think that there would be some place on the blackberry storm that keeps your trash so that if you delete something by accident, there would be a way to get it back.

    Your help is deeply appreciated,

    Welcome to CrackBerry Hayley.

While you are on school property, you are subject to the rules they have imposed. Seizing your BlackBerry may have been justified, but I would not think it would allow them to search and delete content.

There is no recycle bin on the media card, but it may be possible to recover the deleted files. There are Windows File Management tools that will recover deleted files.

They have every right to take your phone from you. But going through your phone and deleting things I don't think they are legally able to do it unless they have a good reason to think that something incriminating is found on there.

If I were you I wouldn't take my phone to school and have it out in the open for the teaching staff to see. If you're gonna have it, keep it where they won't see it. Although you shouldn't be playing on your phone at school anyway. But you won't listen to what I have to say anyway.

I'd put a passcode on it right this second. Not just because of them. Just because it's the safer thing to do.

Agreed! A little annoyed by having to type a few keystrokes pales
by comparison to think some stranger, of possibly questionable
character, has my phone and by extension, the names, addresses
and other contact information of my friends and family.

I already did. Haha. I just can not believe that lady took my phone only 6min before school ended. She had to of known that i would miss my bus, and it wasn't like i could pick it up the next day of anything since it is a three day weekend. Not to mention that she told me the wrong place to go.

I've spoken with a principal of a high school about this very subject, and here's what I learned (around here anyway - it might not be the same for all schools). I was told that while taking a student's phone is justified because they are not allowed to have it in their possession/operate it during school hours (students are allowed to "check-in" their phones with the office when they come to school, and come and pick them up after school); however it's not justified to go through their phone and delete things - the ONLY reason they would go through a phone is to look at timestamps on messages, and ONLY if there is a dispute about the time of use. either 1. you forgot to actually save it, which is easy to do on bb's, or 2. they went beyond their rules and snooped in your business. I'm guessing it's the first one, because a school official would *usually* know better.

if they got a tip that there was illegal/inappropriate content, they would alert authorities and not look themselves.

unrelated, there was a story the other day about some students that were sending nude pics to each other, and they got busted and arrested for child pornography.
