My cellphone bill that i got in September last year showed data downloads of R4800 and I didn't download anything on that phone. Some people tell me that if the APN block is checked then the phone connects to the internet by itself. How can I prove this to my service provider. They say the billing is correct and came from my phone and I MUST JUST PAY. What am I to do. I refuse to pay for something that I didn't use. Help please!!!

Are you confused by what they define as data? It's not just downloads, it's any website that you visit, any time you use Facebook, twitter, pretty much anything that consumes data. That would also include email attachment downloads.

I think it's the Rand, which would equal around $540-ish US.

It is a Blackberry curve with BIS. I didn't use that phone for anything other than BBM.

Yes RAND (South-African). And here it is a lot of money. But can anyone help me prove that I did not download anything when the stats show that the downloads originated from my phone?

Some carriers treat BBM as data. And your phone uses internet even when you don't. The solution would be to completely disable internet for your carrier via the settings.

    How many MB is it?

That is a HUGE bill. Have you shared files, photos or videos using BBM? Have you watched any videos sent to you on BBM like Youtube, or download them from the BBM message? If so, that will use a huge amount of data.
