No I am not selectively applying my principles, I choose not to purchase products from companies with dismal human rights abuses against their workers, I know its impossible to avoid every possible abuser but when a company that has been linked numerous times to such severe abusive practices such as Foxconn engages in, I make a conscience effort to boycott them. I try to buy Canadian whenever I can and I avoid big box stores such as Walmart and Target. Lastly I have been critical of Apple for using Foxconn and I will be just as critical of Blackberry for doing the same.

I think we will find that the notion that Blackberry is getting out of the hardware business is more true than it isn't. I mean, if you hire a company like Foxconn to design your phones, set up the factories, source the parts, and take the inventory risk then how much are you still in the smartphone business? We'll see what the Jakarta phone even looks like a Blackberry.

Foxconn may provide engineering support but the design will be done by Blackberry. Going the contract manufacturer route pretty much had to happen. The other alternative would be a rebadged HTC or similar.
