    Question no wifi (data plan)?

i recently got wifi at my house.

i can connect to with my Curve via the "manage connections" (at least it says it's connected) and the icon in the corner says it has 4 bars of signal, but if i go to send a text message... nothing. it even gives the little red x on the message like i have no connection.
then if i go outside where it connects to EDGE, it's fine.

so the question is, do i need to have a data plan to use the wifi with it?
    or is something else amiss?

You need your mobile network switched on to send texts. They won't send over wifi.

What is your signal inside the house? It can't send text messages over wifi, it must be sent through the carrier, so make sure you have a text messaging plan. You might be able to send BBMs though.
    all smartphones are tools.
android = 48pc tool set (you"ll eventually find the tool you need, but some assembly required)
iphone = swiss army knife (most of the tools you need in a small, simple to use package)
blackberry = adjustable wrench (sometimes all you need is a wrench)
windows phone = bionic wrench (its different....but it works)

If you can make voice calls, you should be able to send and receive text messages. BBM and Email messages, both use data and require a BB Data plan. As for connecting to WiFI, that depends on the model and the service books on the device.

Yes, you need a data plan to use WiFi. But (as noted above) that has nothing to do with sending SMS.

Texts will only send over your carrier's mobile network. They will not send over wifi.

If you're running OS7.1 and have a BB data plan, you'll still get all your usual BIS services using wifi only... except SMS obviously.

You can do email with third party apps. I highly recommend LogicMail for email over WIFI.
