In my local TELUS store yesterday, which had the Leap & Classic on display but no Passport. The sales person asked if I was interested in a new phone when enquired about the passport was told that the new leap is a replacement for the Passport!!!

I told him that he was wrong, that the new leap was not to replace the Passport, two different phones altogether aimed at two different types of customers. At that point time to leave,

I would have been like "So next time LG comes out with a mid-range device, that's actually going to be a replacement for the G4?"

Just like customer service staff of Telcos in my country, they are not update with information of the products they are promoting. People in the street get the latest information before these paid staff.

It replaces the Passport because they have only room for two devices on their working display. They feel that they will sell more phone plans with the Leap vs the Passport. It is a zero down phone that is all touch.

Nothing new with a bunch of people with the lack of knowledge about BlackBerry 10. Can be irritating, but also intriguing.

Then again, due to the lack of popularity for BlackBerry 10, the devices are cheap, so I can't complain.

Lack of training, poor analytical ability, poor business understanding, lack of product focus by the retailer has resulted into such a atrocious sales pitch!!
Passport i can proudly say is best PKB device in the world.

Maybe he was referring the to the display model or something. Did you ask him to elaborate?

I will agree, that most store staff because they have the relevant grades to work there but not the experience.

Jay, we can't blame the carriers. BlackBerry refuses to provide the field people to provide training at the store level.

Retail store has only so many facings. I love Blackberry. However, as phone retailer, I would not waste space on three blackberries. In retail you sell what people buy not what you like. In my store, blackberry would be lucky to have one facing and it would be Classic or Leap just to move as much volume as people ask for.

They probably looked at the Passport and thought it was a big old typewriter and therefore the Leap was it's replacement.

It is not ignorance. Carrier sells what will sell. Probably the Passport is just too wide to be a popular phone. Should have had a 4:3 screen. Narrower and taller. I think the Classic is as wide as I would want a phone.

I doubt he meant the Leap replaced the Passport as far as being an upgrade. More like the store replaced an item that sells less with an item that might sell more. Sort of like replacing Corn Flakes on the shelf of a grocery store with Frosted Flakes because kids like them better, so Mom's will buy more of them!!

This is what I took from it as well. IIRC, the BlackBerry display at most Telus stores have only two spots, so they probably replaced Passport with the Leap.
