I just got a Pearl 8130 from Verizon and am very excited to be organized for once. I have a bunch of questions, but am now confused about how to get themes and third party apps onto the device using the Blackberry Desktop Manager. When I tried to do it, I got some message about it updating my device software and deleting everything in the process. Can someone explain what this is about?

i think you need to read this thread:

no new applications for your device found - what do i do?

i was having the same problem that i think you are having. if you are getting the error message "no new applications for your device found" or something to that effect, then this is the thread you will need. basically you need the device manager AND the device os on your pc. good luck, and let us know if you are still having problems.

i got my 8130 from verizon last week and i needed to update the software before i was able to install 3rd party apps. there is a thread on here that has a link to the update. it took me about an hour to install it and i had no problem with it.

thanks guys for responding - i went to the faq and everything worked out fine. It's nice to know that help is always there for newbies (soon to be not) like me. Oh and by the way, I did not forget to back up my data before doing this.
