Default My Story (iPhone to Blackberry)

    Hey Guys!

Ok so I keep seeing a lot of posts about people thinking of swapping from iPhone to Blackberry,
Thought I would share my experience with you all and maybe it might help you decide

Firstly I'm not going to say how one phone is better than the other as it's all down to personal needs and taste.

I had my iPhone 4S for just over a year and I didn't dislike the phone but found myself wanting something different, the iPhone just didn't seem to fit with me all that well, Don't get me wrong it's a decent phone but since having a Blackberry Storm 2 quite some time ago I did find myself missing the phone.

My first thoughts when moving to my Blackberry 9900 was how much enjoyable sending txts was, It became much quicker and more accurate due to the keyboard and I was able to use an entire text rather than just a few lines.

RINGTONES! This is a nice change for me as with iPhone buying a ringtone of faffing around trying to create one was rather a pain as I like to change my ringtone quite often, With 9900 I can simply choose a different song and away I go which was a nice change

Apps wise the iPhone has the advantage with a vast app store filled but many interesting apps but I didn't find myself missing them as the essentials are also in the 9900 market place which I must say made the cross over much easier for me.

One thing I have noticed is on the 9900 I use a lot less data than the iPhone but I am still doing my same daily things which has helped rather a lot as I nearly run out of data by end of month on iphone.

Overall I find the 9900 to be comfy in my hands and able to handle everything I throw at it, also linked with a Playbook makes the experience a great source of entertainment.

It really is all down to personal choice but if you want to use a phone for the reasons it was created I'd recommend Blackberry to anyone

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask and I will try and help the best I can

    Nice story

I also came from an Iphone (albeit the 3G, which I think many can agree was quite underwhelming)

One thing I have noticed is on the 9900 I use a lot less data than the iPhone but I am still doing my same daily things which has helped rather a lot as I nearly run out of data by end of month on iphone.
This I agree with x100..I have many friends that continually use more data than is allowed in their cap as there are many apps there and it's so easy to use..many forget that there using data..for even the simple things like asking Siri what the weather will be like

I have heard a few will seriously considering BB10..just for the data compression and the BIS plans alone..as it is just a joy to browse and chat for however long I like without working about any bill shocks..

Anyway I just hope enough people will be interested in trying out BlackBerry so the famous first smartphone will live among the other brands in what is a crowded marketplace nowadays

    Cheers!

I used to use a BB phone, but was lured away by the shiny that was a GS2. While I have enjoyed the Android OS, I'm looking forward to 2013 as I'll be eligble for an upgrade. I've firmly set my sights on picking up a BB10 phone and getting back to what is expected to be a fantastic OS. I'll also have the added advantage of pairing it with my PB's.

I do believe BB phones use a special data compression feature not avaliable on other platforms, which is why they tend to require their own special plan.

Data compression has been available on iPhone for over a year. Download and install either Onavo or Snappli. Both are transparent, they basically install a VPN profile on your phone. Both let you control the amount of compression you want, including compressing emails.

By default the iPhone will always use much more Data than a Blackberry at doing the same things.
I am not at all saying either phone shouldn't be your choice as it's whatever you feel is best for you.
I was giving my personal opinion on my switch from iPhone to Blackberry and I can happily say I will be a BB user from now on.

The phones seem tough and sturdy and can certainly deal with my daily needs and useage.

Personally I am glad I made the switch and my only regret is not doing so sooner.

Is the price the same for BB dataplans VS regular dataplans (per Gig) or are the BB plans more expensive?

At least on Verizon, I am able to alternate between Blackberry and Windows Phone on the same unlimited data plan that I've had for years. I suspect it's the same on the new shared data plans.

I would have thought that since the compression goes through RIM's NOCs, they would get a piece of the action too, whereas, for the other generic data plans, it doesn't.

Depends on where you are. In some countries, carriers have priced both the same. Others price BIS plans more expensively, to cover for RIM's cut.

The only difference is that, BB offers compression by default and from manufacturer, for a fee. No other platform offers this. There are 3rd party apps that offer compression for iPhone, at a cost of trading your data.
We have already discussed this multiple times.

Huh? The 3G was NOT underwhelming. Unless you're talking about the 3GS. 3G came out in 2008 and was much better than anything Android or Windows Mobile or Symbian at that point.
