Quite often we ask why the negative perception towards our beloved Blackberry exists. Of course, the reasons are varied and there is probably no end to the differing opinions.

Just last week, I was traveling from Las Vegas on a business trip. On reaching the TSA security check point, I showed my ID and the bar scan of my boarding pass on my Q10. The TSA agent remarked, " Wow a Blackberry! Do they still make those?"*

At his remark, a small group of travelers crowded around my "dinosaur" of a phone. Some had heard about the new Passport and Classic, but most thought that the company had gone under.*

I think the reasons are a combination of bad press and Blackberry's inability to rebrand it self. What say you......

The bad press certainly doesn't help although it seems to have gotten better since the release of the Passport.

Me personally, I think they should only focus on high end devices like the Passport. I've read other comments on threads and there seems to be strong demand for a high end touch screen device and I'm one of those.

We shall see. Certainly hoping for it in the road map.

the only thing 'dinosaur' about my passport is its size/weight (which I love) and the fact that it stomps everything else on the market!

A few years back, I went through Boston Logan Airport and my PlayBook was in a slipcase with the BlackBerry logo facing up. The TSA person asked if it was a PlayBook. I said "yes" and he asked me if I liked it, to which I also said "yes".

When the Playbook first launched, it was looked up too real well. It didn't turn out like that though later on down the road.

Happens to me about a dozen times a week... after seeing my Passport folks commenting they didn't know BlackBerry still existed.

Until BlackBerry gets their out of their bull headed refusal to advertise mode... it will continue...

Wow.. that's crazy. I'll be traveling in a couple days and I wondering about the scan bar being too small on my Q10, but seems that you didn't have any issue with that. Cool and thnx for standing up for the BlackBerry crowd, I'd definitely do the same if anyone wonders the existence of beloved devices.

The Q10 is starting to look dated, particularly because of its small size. Phones these days are getting bigger and bigger it seems.

The Q10 stands out IMO. All other touch devices blend in. Difference is small, medium or large sizes. And I still can't stop staring when someone has the Note (in an Otterbox) next to their ears, talking. That thing is huge.

I agree that some of the largest modern smartphones are a bit much and look rather silly in my opinion. On the other end of the spectrum though, I think the Q10 is a bit too small. It's all subjective of course.

It wasn't when the PlayBook was new. It was after all the price drops, as that's when I grabbed one.

I agree. Now that I have the Classic, my Q10 looks small and dim. But my Bold 9900 never felt small. Maybe the LCD display made a difference?

I was flying out of Calgary International last week and a fellow had a Passport in the line....his screen for some reason wouldn't let the scanner read his electronic boarding pass. Out of the line he was escorted and sent back to get a paper one printed out. He wasn't saying any nice words as he walked past us, it's was odd because from what I could see it looked perfect on his larger screen.

Hmm strange. The airport is where I see most BlackBerry's as it's quite popular with business people flying around for work.

Also, trust much a TSA agent says anyway. Those guys are known not to be the smartest people. Not sure where they find them but sometimes it's just like WOW

I never see any BlackBerry's where I live, and I do get tired of the strange looks when I bust out my Q10, but I still haven't found a phone I like better so I stick with what works for me.

My guess is the Carriers wrote off the BB and maybe for good reasons. For some reason BB has stopped promoting BB Ads here in USA, they did start a blitz, when was it? for the Q10, but demand fizzled, people were afraid to buy, due to what to uncertainty of RIMS future and what seemed like their unavoidable bankruptcy. I think if BB is considering staying around as a viable alternative to Apple and Android they would at least make their devices easily available through BB and Amazon plus spend just a wee bit of money to advertise once in a while. But it's difficult to promote Z30 due to age, and difficult to promote retro phones, the Passport did receive a lot of good press as well as good praise. But like I read here, most people in USA don't know BB exists. I do feel BB is doing a good job holding on by working with the core users and by pushing out the Passport but the future still isn't known. But I like my new Z30 which I dumped a Nexus 4 running Lollipop for and don't regret it. As old as the Z30 is, it is a better phone all around then the Nexus 4, even on Lollipop IMHO. PS, this App **** is over done by the press, I thought Apps were going to be a great new thing when I went to Android but most nearly All Apps are childish things and I virtually erased nearly every App I tried. Having three trillion Apps in a store is going to change App quality. (Sorry App developers.) And Apps are just vehicles too take meta data to sell, especially on Android. If I have a great browser, then most Apps to me are not needed. But competition will hype whatever they need to fool people into thinking they are missing the latest - greatest. Even if it is an App that turns your flash on so you can pee in the dark all the while its sucking down all you private so called Meta Data.

I was hearing the same thing everywhere I went in the USA with my Blackberry phones. Now all I have to do is place my beautiful white Passport on the bar at happy hour, the dining table while dining or carry it in my hand visible to the public and she gets more attention that cleavage. It's so nice to hear the question "is that the new Blackberry"?

Hopefully the tides are changing for Blackberry.

Recently travelling from Vancouver to northern BC and was pleasantly surprised. Of the 6 passengers sitting around me there were 4 BlackBerry devices excluding my Z30...three Z10 and a Passport. other devices were an iphone and a Galaxy. Never would have guessed that given the charging station at the gate was almost entirely iphones.
