my sister did the same thing. We have been a BB family for a while now, but today she traded in her BB9780 for an iPhone 5. She doesn't like that she won't be able to chat with her husband anymore on BBM (he's got a locked down BES BB) & she also prefers BB to iPhone, but "all her friends have iPhones" grrr
I hope the same thing happens to her iPhone 5 as happened to her iPhone 4. 2 years ago got an iPhone 4. After a week or 2 the thing was toast. It couldn't handle the desert heat (she lived in Qatar) she's now back in Canada where she can easily return a broken iPhone under warantee.
#($@&%@# Peer Pressure!!!!
Koodo screwed up the provisioning of her phone today, so it apparently won't start working until tomorow. She's gota go 24 hours without a mobile haha server her right!
my poor BBM Family Group is getting small In Nov my 1 sister switched to a Samsung Galaxy (becuase her BF has one) & now my other sister has switched to an iPhone becuase "all her friends" have them. Thankfully I don't see my parents switching any time soon. They LOVE their BB's. They user their 9900's for communication, & their PB's for Games. Their only complaints are wish the batteries lasted longer, & wish we could play each other on PB (yea some PB games have that feature, but most don't)
Anyway, I hope I didn't ramble too much, I'm just finishing up a bottle of wine so.....

Note: I use a 9810, I just get tired of the spreading of mindless FUD.

I actually understand your frustration. One of my co-workers lost her bb, got a refurbished torch - which was apparently junk. My boss (her bf) kept having 'problems' with his curve (usually user error, but whatever). Truly the co-worker has actually wanted an android or iphone for awhile, so convinced the boss to get a samsung sIII. They both know that BB10 launches in 2 weeks - but it just wasn't enough. They want what they want. Which would be fine, except in our business the bbm was super useful and I was finally going to be able to actually get our whole team using bbm group to share group pages. Now the boss and his gf have opted out. Very annoying.
The other frustrating thing for me was the bs excuse my boss gave for switching. 'I couldn't set up my email as a webpage widget to launch from my homepage on bb' . Ummmm. Yeah. You could of. You didn't try. I don't care what phone people want to use but at least be honest about the reason. Although I suppose 'my gf made me' doesn't make you sound real manly..

Most regular consumers won't believe in BB10 until they see other people use it in real life, get curious and get their own hands on it. If RIM succeeds, as we all here hope they will, there will be many who will switch to BB once they see for themselves how good the phone really is. Anyway, I think you should thank your friend. He gives you the opportunity to say "I told you so." later when he sells the iPhone and gets BB10. That or he gives you the opportunity to smirk at him when he starts drooling over your Z10. lol.

2 weeks until the launch event. At least that long until we have it on a phone. Probably around a month from now until it's on a phone, and there's ALWAYS a better phone coming out next month, and there's always some reason why it's amazing and worth waiting for. The fact is that your friend won't know until January 30 whether it's even worth it for them to wait, and most people aren't keen on waiting to find out whether or not it's worth it to wait, especially because probably after BB10 is out another one of their friends will be letting them know about the next amazing phone coming out in a few weeks.

My friend is an *****!!!
Apple will need to change IOS and its in out paradigm to something better like OH let's say BlackBerry10. BlackBerry's always in paradigm may become more of the norm. Does a home button not feel like extra steps with these new gesture based OS coming out? I think it does. Samsung may think so too as the Gs4 is said to have No buttons much like BlackBerry10.
Until Apple re vamps IOS they will not see that top position again. Were Oh Were is the wonderful Apple innovation we were all so use to in the Steve Jobs era? Ill tell you were...with Steve Jobs. Sammy will remain king throughout 2013 and Apple will continue to decline.
People will lol at Apple this summer when they release Iphone 5s with NFC and available in 6 colors.
What other Iphone can I think of that produced headlines like
: "Iphone 5: From record breaking launch to Wall Streets whipping boy."
Or: "The Iphone 5 Is the most disappointing Iphone Ever"
A few comments from Iphone5 owners : " This should have been the 4s not the 5!!!"
"9-12 is Apples 9-11" (I lol at that one)
"I don't miss my Iphone at all and people can say what they want but the Iphone was a great phone back before the era of smartphones...now its just another smartphone"
"Everything that's "improved" was on the Gs2 in 2011...larger screen,better processor,better camera,extra camera,LTE, smh"
So it seems as if I'm not alone. Many people were very disappointed in Iphone5 and thus it has been dubbed most disappointing Iphone ever...Ill leave you with one more headline:
It seems that the sheep indeed showed up to buy but were less than impressed with the 4s+ and the lighter wallet. Record breaking week or not. Apple needs to step it up because people are taking off the I-blinders and are leaving for great innovative devices.
So as you are entitled to your opinion of me and my mindless banter I am entitled to my opinion (that many others seem to share)that the Iphone5 failed to do what the 4 and 4s did therefore making it the most unpopular Iphone yet.
It didn't WOW anyone. It actually made people sigh kinda like I did when I read your post

My friend is an *****!!!
I just continue to laugh at the polarized childish opinions and attacks. It is a phone for goodness sake, and a pretty darn good one at that. Both choices are valid but people don't go with the iPhone because they are stupid or sheep. People who choose BB are not dinosaurs clinging to old tech. Both are valid choices.
BB10 looks great from a demo standpoint and I will buy one for sure. But I can use either quite productively.
I don't choose my friends or get upset by their phone. Lmao at that one.

Probably the last straw just broke the proverbial camel's back for your friend and he had a real bad experience with the BB he was using (spinning clock, random reboots, etc) and he ended up choosing the competition. Fairly normal thing to do. BB 10 is promising, but just that, promising at this point.

Just think about it like this...In ten days you can post a new thread : "My friend watches BlackBerry10 launch and is returning his Iphone 5...admits to being an *****!!! for not listening to me "
