    Default My BlackBerry Story

My first smart phone was a BlackBerry Tour in 2009. Probably went through at least 4 or 5 Tours due to warranty issues.

Upgrade available in 2011 and decided to try something different. Went with a HTC Thunderbolt 4G. Tried to like it. Battery was so poor. Although Android was pretty cool, phone was just too big and the phone didn't feel complete; I guess it was lack of intergration.

After a month I convinced VZW to sell me a new BlackBerry Bold 9930 for 2 year contract price. Absolutely loved the phone. Such a huge improvement to the Tour.

But after 8 months and after playing with my wife's Motorola Razr Maxx, I was hooked with the speed. So I bought it full price (no discount). Great phone. Can do so much and very fast.

But after 6 months I have foubd the phone just too big to comfortably carry with me 24/7. And typing on the touch screen was just different. Swype and swift key are great apps and fairly efficient for me but overall I missed the feel of the BB keyboard and the short cuts.

So I was able to get a recertified Bold 9930 from VZW recently for free due to a mistakeAnd while the Razr Maxx has 4G and a much better camera and video and can do a bunch of things I wish the Bold could do...in the end...

    I choose BlackBerry!

It just suits my needs better than any phone on the market at this time. It is fast and the native apps are so well intergrated into the BB experience. If I wanted a phone that was geared more towards media consumption I would likely choose android or iPhone. But I'm not going to get sucked into the "I need a phone for media consumption" hype.

    Default My BlackBerry Story

I also started with BB with a Tour.

    I also bought a Bold 9930.

And believe it or not I also have a Droid razr maxx.

Your observation about the razr is interesting to me. I personally find my Bold 9930 to be an overall faster device in all respects except app installs. The Bold is just quick to navigate for me.

In fact I think the stock camera and photo apps on the razr are very laggy. At least it is on mine.

BlackBerry all the way for me.

I understand about the laggy camera comment. I don't think most people realize how fast the BB camera is. Instead most people simply want to complain about the lack of autofocus. The purpose of that was to reduce shutter lag.

That and with the traditional blackberry os on the Bold's fast hardware, and the shortcuts, it is very very efficient navigation wise.

Couldn't agree more. After getting the 9930 back in my hands I was surprised that it was actually faster in operation than the RAZR Maxx. The shortcuts are fantastic.

You got that right. I understand the lure of the other Operating Systems. In their own right they are truly impressive, just not for me. BlackBerry is king. Hopefully RIM comes through with BB10. I woild hate to lose this platform.
