    I'm a newbie.

How can I tell how much memory I have available on my phone? And what is a good level to be at? I read the thread about increasing memory. But they were using Kbs or something like that and I got confused.

Memory totals - options > status > look for file free.

Minimum levels - Most suggest 12,xxx,xxx or 12mb
With the newer OS's 5,xxx,xxx or 5mb in sufficient, in theory

I always "clean up" when I get down to 15 mb. 5 on the newer ones? That seems kinda low considering all the extra on device memory they're cramming on these now.

Rather than retype it, or take credit for the explanation:

Device Memory Limit was originally set to 15 Mb reserved for Media file extraction and playback.

That was plenty, so 12 Mb and later 5 Mb were added to allow from heavy media users or heavy data user to customize their memory use.

I have never run into a playback issue with 5 Mb, that frees up additional memory for other things.
