I purchased a new BB Curve for VZW through an eBay seller recently. Is this phone protected under any sort of manufacturer warranty?

Also, if I were to take part of my phone apart, for example to replace the lens, or change the housing, I know this voids a warranty...but how do they know this has been done?

You can purchase a warranty from SquareTrade, you just need to provide them with the auction number for documentation of the purchase price.

They offer one and two year warranties at reasonable amounts.
