Engadget had an article today saying that London is testing padded lamp posts for people that are distracted by looking at their cell phone while texting.

Certainly us BlackBerry users aren't stupid enough to run into a lamp post...

Padded lampposts for distracted texters being tested in London

According to a recent report, human beings are becoming so incredibly stupid that they require cushioned lamppost bases so that when they run into them they don't mess up their idiotic faces. Apparently, a study in the UK found that one in ten people actually managed to hurt themselves by walking into a post while peering down at their mobile phone screen. The mishaps -- called "walking and texting" injuries -- have spurred the charity Living Streets to launch the padded-post-pilot scheme in Brick Lane, London. It seems that if all goes well, there are plans to roll out the *****-proof system in Birmingam, Manchester, and Stupidton.

once...many many years ago...was TOTALLY checking this girl out as i was walking and she was getting into a jeep...

i was not even TRYING to be subtle...full on CHECKING HER OUT...

and she smiled at me and kind of...you know...winked...

and i walked SMACK into a street lamp...

i was literally seeing stars and sort of sank to the ground...all sense of cool completely obliterated...

i was with a friend who laughed so hard he fell into a row of bushes...

the girl got out of the jeep...came over and gave me her phone number...and told me to call her...and thanked me for cheering her up...

Maybe they need to add spikes instead of padding and open up a few manholes.

I think we may need to "thin the herd"

For sure. There was a woman here in Detroit a few weeks ago that nearly got herself killed talking on her phone. She was driving and talking on her phone when she didn't realize that she had just crossed over railroad tracks as a train was coming. The train smashed her car and she's lucky she wasn't seriously hurt.

    WOW.

Us Cali folks are like that too! I always see people on the phone texting and such. Not going to lie, i do that sometimes too but not to that extent where I'm almost hit by a freakin train!
