When you say normal what do you mean? In landscape the keyboard will show a full keyboard. In portrait you can now have three different keyboards. You can have the SureType keyboard (two letters per key and the bb will try to predict the word), the Multitap keyboard (found on most phones where you have three letters per key and press the button multiple times to get each letter) and with .90, the full keyboard (this looks like the physical keyboard found on other blackberries). If you want to change any of the portrait keyboards you can do it from the options. Go to Options> Screen/Keyboard> Portrait View Keyboard: Full Keyboard, SureType or Multitap.
