Or does the default carrier theme run the smoothest? Its something I've noticed on my 8320

No I've noticed it too. My default Sprint theme runs the smoothest. I love different themes and have 4 on my 8330 but recently switched back to the default because the others make my curve run like a slow computer.

Well the default theme is very basic. Because it's basic it's not demanding.. that simple :P

Usually new themes are a little clunky when they first get going on my BB, but after a battery pull or two, they tend to work just as well as the simpler carrier theme.

Agreed. As well I've noticed at least for part of the first day of using a theme it might be a little slow, but the next day it would be running smooth.

I never use the default carrier themes. In fact I deleted 2 of them.
I have one 3rd party theme (Leopard Blank) and it functions flawlessly.
