Hey there, I just got a new Bold, recently un-boxed. I'm just wondering where the GPS application is, how much data does it generally use and is there a way to check up on how much data I've used on a daily basis to make sure I don't go over my limit.

Also, I haven't inserted my SIM card yet, should I do that after it charges and the GPS app will appear? Thanks!

Blackberry Maps sucks. Download google maps mobile if you want a mapping app or AmazeGPS if you want turn by turn nav.

    +1 on Google Maps.

Don't even waste your app memory on BB Maps.

Ok, also how much data those Google Maps use, let's say on a 2 hour drive.
Also, is it customizable? Say like, local routes only.

Update: I now have Google Maps but the location is definitely way off, by almost 500meters... What's up with that... not a very reliable way to use GPS if I'm 500mb from where it thinks I am!

Also, anyway to make it show a local route rather then a route needing to take the highway?

that's probably network triangulation GPS should be less than 10 meters off. You need to give the GPS time to kick in.

download it and see for yourself. I like it better than Google Maps because it has a compass and shows how fast your traveling (MPH)

    point blackberry browser to wls.live.com

I installed it but everytime I run it, it gives me a network error, can't find network or something to that extent whereas GMM works fine.

Go to options on live search and make sure network configuration parameters are set to "direct http"

Tried direct http, got pass 1/4 and when checking for update:

Sorry can't download app data, please check network connection.

Also, for GMM, can I actually use it as a GPS map? Like telling me to turn left/right, the location follows me constantly, etc (I still can't find a way to make it so it only gives me local routes.)

You might have not allowed WLS to set permissions when you downloaded it. Google Maps doesn't have turn by turn directions.

No, if you want turn by turn GPS there are free programs but aren't as good as paid programs like Telenav or Garmin

BTW you can check Appworld there are free turn by turn GPS programs there.
