I noticed after submitting the insurance claim for Storm that if I don't send the damged phone back within 15 days I could be charged up to $300...doesn't the phone cost something like $500 w/o plan? So hypothetically if I was to file a claim on a stolen phone I could keep my original phone and sell the other one for a tight little profit? heheheh criminal thinking isn't healthy:p
The title of your thread shouldn't be "Insurance loop hope" it should be "Insurance Fraud".

My point is that if the company doesn't want to lose money don't you think the fee should exceed the value of the phone?
I don't think I have ever seen another user help out someone
asking how to steal a phone or commit insurance fraud. With any
luck we will keep our streak alive.

So nobody sees that fact that they are only going to charge your three hundred dollars to replace a $500 phone...the fraud part was the joke the fact that they are overpricing the phone by almost two hundred dollars is crazy...
Well it's not really fraud if they got what they want. Either the phone or 300.

If your phone is reported stolen and someone else tries to turn it on the id number given will come up as a stolen or lost and they will not turn the phone on. So there is no loop hole. Every phone has a different id #.
I have a relative who works for verizon and she has told me to always check out the id number before purchasing a phone ( I have bought from ebay) because if it is a lost or stolen phone they will not turn it on and you lose your money.

It's not fraud if it's their policy. He won't go to jail, he wont have a record or anything like that. If it is indeed a loophole he isn't at fault the insurance is.
It's not fraud at all. If your original Storm was damaged and you make a claim, receive the new Storm, and return the old one or pay the 300 you've fulfilled your part of the deal. However, in the end you may be up $200 but you are still out a phone and have just contributed to the ever increasing insurance rates.

Not to mention the fact that his original phone would be nothing more than a $500 paper weight after it was deactivated when reported stolen .

It is fraud if you say something was stolen when it really wasn't.
Those of you who think it isn't fraud because the insurance company got their $300 and the "deal" was completed, don't forget your not suppose to make claims unless your phone was really stolen.
Just asked my attorney buddy what "Fraud" is . . . "an attempt to deceive" is what he said.

My post said nothing about claiming the phone was stolen when it really wasn't, nor the OP. He asked about not sending the damaged phone back and just paying the $300 per the agreement with the insurance company when filing the claim. That is not fraud. Please read carefully next time.

that $200 you save by filing a false claim falls under the catagory of "that would not otherwise be paid"

i dont think its so much being "tightasses". This is an established forum with an honest reputation. The OP is free to do what he wants and shouldn't let our words be the sole influence for the decisions he makes. However, by posting he must accept that there mayl be many that will not agree with his statement/opinions. It comes with the territory of voicing your opinion.
And "getting a life" does not necessarily mean you have to start condoning criminal behavior. :rolleyes:

It was hypothetical, so to the OP, it wouldn't work, unless you planned on stealing twice. Once from the insurance company and once from the poor sucker on Craig's list to whom you sell an unusable BlackBerry. Yes, not a good scenario for you when you get caught. The buyer will report the stolen property and with any luck, the provider will be able to put two and two together and bust you. ;) Hypothetically, that is.
