Hi guys, thought i'd point out this app i found. Its called Instamapper, and what it does is track your GPS position at a user defined interval and transmit it to their servers which plot the info on a map. Could be useful for plane journeys, road trips, keeping an eye on people...whatever! You can also link it to facebook, so your friends can see where you are (bit too much for me...)

It works perfects on my 9500.

The program seems to work on my 9530, but it doesn't seem to be getting a GPS fix...

No, Verizon has not locked the GPS. The GPS works on BB Maps and Nav4All.

I think they have it locked to a certain degree. It won't work with google maps if you're on verizon, but if you are outside verizon it works. Strange.

I looked around on their forums and they're reworking the program and should be releasing a beta that works on the Storm.

Ya I meant the bold version works on the storm. But they are coming out with a storm version specifically.

It's not clear what exactly Verizon has unlocked, there still seems to be a lot of questions in the air since some apps work while others don't.

The CDMA varients used to artificially lock the GPS unless you paid $10/mo to unlock it. Nice little earner for Verizon, $10/mo for their nav app, or $10/mo to unlock GPS, gotcha either way.

I am surprised that this keeps coming up. The Verizon GPS is unlocked. Trapster works, NAV4ALL works, Garmin works and geo features work. I don't pay anything but my regualr monthly. The gmaps I believe is a different issue and is waiting for a Google update. Right know it triangulates towers, which doesn't work well in my area since the tower are about 5000 feet from my house. Does the same thing on my 8830.

+1. I know Verizon is famous for crippling everything under the moon, but it appears they have unlocked the GPS for everything on the Storm.

I think the issue is that Verizon has locked aGPS (GPS plus aiding by the cell towers). If the program (Google Maps, Instamapper, etc) is trying to look at aGPS data (locked) instead of straight GPS data (unlocked), it won't work.

Well, that's my theory at least.
