To be honest, the main thing that's keeping me with BB is the great way it works with my PlayBook. While I like having the keyboard of my older BBs, I tried out a Windows Phone 7 when my contract was up that didn't have one and quickly learned to live without it, especially with all that additional screen space. I switched back to the Torch 9850 because of the PB and the lack of the ability to sync multiple Google calendars (which has since been fixed) and it's fine but not nearly as good as that WP7. When my contract is up in July 2013, I will evaluate the BB10 phones and the WP8 phones that will be available by then. We'll see...

RIM won't fail first of all. However, a keyboard seems to be important to the majority of users so I imagine Android and its numerous formfactors would probably pick up the slack.

Bit of a silly question.... sort of like asking... What 2014 model car are you going to buy before they are actually released... 6 months to a year is forever in the tech business... for me I will wait and see what is avaialble and most important what works for me.....

Maybe a feature phone. All this device and apps "hype" is starting to get to me. Lol.

Most of you seem to want WP8 if no RIM exists in the future. I'm going iPhone because it's the only one I could justify in my lifestyle. I have a grand hatred for Android and I don't see as much flexibility with WP.
Still, I want to see what BlackBerry will do before I plan to jump ship.If God is your co-pilot, switch seats. - 04-10-2012, 03:07 PM #38
Windows phone or Android. Depends on what meets my needs when it comes time to purchase another phone.
iOS I won't even look at. - 04-10-2012, 03:18 PM #39
RIM is a multi-million dollar company and I do not think that it will go away anytime soon. Most companies go through economic ups and downs; so I think RIM will recover in time, as lots of other institutions have.
If the situation the OP stated ever occurred, however, I would go with Android. I've played with some of their devices and I like what I see. I'd go with an LG Phoenix or Samsung Galaxy of some sort. But as other posters have said, I want to stick with RIM/BlackBerry for a long time. I have a contract with BlackBerry for another two years; and at the time of upgrade, I would love to get a Torch or even a BB10 phone - all-touch or with a QWERTY keyboard, I'm not sure.
This is a pretty good topic. I do like having all my bases covered in any situation (i.e. when I applied to university, etc.); so it's good to think rationally. I think there's a difference between this and fatalistic thinking. Either way, it's a good topic and I'm sure there will be a lot of different opinions. - 04-10-2012, 03:23 PM #40

I would stick it out with whatever BB I have at the time for as long as I could. I could probably go four more years with the latest BB handset.

Came up on the battle already, and based on availability of devices>price>needs, the choice was Android, until either the end of baseball season or BB 10 makes its entrance. There was one WP device available now on Sprint, it's a piece of junk, based on lousy hardware, not OS. An iPhone is not an option for me, for a plethora of reasoons.
Had the Bold been less money, MLB support would have me using it. But, they still want full price, and I decided that I'd make sure I had something I could live with; Android met all three criteria, acceptably. I miss the keyboard and BBM, but I've adapted to the touchscreen, and BB 10 without one is fine with me now.
I based my distaste for virtual keyboards on my experiences with iPhone and iPod Touch. I'm doing a mea culpa, as I have found that not all keyboards are created equal, in a literal sense. The device I have now has changed my opinion and my mind about a virtual keyboard. I was wrong.
Lest anyone pshaw at this, I'm not changing my love for BlackBerry or abandoning my CrackBerry friends. I was torn badly between many things when the dilemma reared its head. I took the route I needed, and things changed course. I want to see a strong resurgence, and a bright sunrise bring BlackBerry roaring back.

Since my bb and my pb would stop working right once RIM goes under or is sold
So after I threw them out I'd look for a phone with a decent keyboard and LED (not sure what other phones even use LEDs like blackberries). Barring that I'd take a good look at the new nokia that runs windows. It looks pretty slick. I'm not a fan of all touch screen typing. I'm decent at it. I just find it annoying. Even on my playbook. At least I can bridge it and use my 9790 keyboard.

I'm good to go with my 9900 and playbook for a couple more years. I'll worry about it then if it actually happens.

iPhone.
Androids just don't stand up to them. WP8 lacks all the stuff. WebOS(RIP). Leaves iOS as the best alternative.8700, Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Torch 9860, Z10! No case FTW!!!
