I guess not. Some existing members might pay but it would be an entry barrier for new members. That's what CrackBerry would always look at.
Kindly don't go giving people ideas.
Completely agree, TomJ. Seems like depending on where I'm browsing from, sometimes I have two full screens of ads on my PB before I get to any content. They could always keep the ad-driven format for members who don't want to pay. I would be willing to pay an annual fee for no ads -- and a READABLE FONT (hint-hint, Kevin!!!!).
I would pay that in a heart beat. This Site is one of the worst if not thy worst Site on the net for advertisements - bloated, overused, obstructive, annoying, and irritating. These words describe navigating Crackberry from any device let alone the Playbook. I would gladly pay to have an add free version.
I think he's saying ad free for those that pay, people who don't subscribe would get the existing ad filled experience.
Yes exactly, sorry for not flushing that out further. Thanks
In this way new users can decide if they want to upgrade at some point. The $10 just for the knowledge/help for many is worth the $10/year, even more so when one values their time not being on hold from a carrier when many times the answer is at Crackberry.com :)
I know the site is slow but I for one don't want to pay for Crackberry. Every site is trying to charge you for something. I understand that you are saying paying for ad free but as much as I love Crackberry I would not pay for it if there was a charge for the site
Just use m.crackberry.com. Ads go bye bye
The site is a bit of a nightmare browsing on a Playbook. But whatever. Gotta play the bills I guess.
I don't think the ads are a big unless you're browsing without logging in. Then it's just ads galore.
This a problem with the browser of the playbook not having plugins and/or not having ad blockers, not crackberry, not anything else. But sure, its a nice idea I guess, more revenue for the website.
They'd have to charge more than $10 for an entire year to match what the advertisers would pay them now. But either way I couldnt bring my self to pay it.
I'd pay it for sure but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
My gosh, there are a lot of over-dramatic statements being made.
It would be simpler to move CrackBerry comments threaded Twitter exchanges and any articles could be posted to a blog. A small banner advertisement at the head of the blog article; no Adobe Flash, no fifteen levels of content delivery network redirection, and no slowing down the rendering of the actual content. CrackBerry.com can learn to survive on product sales through ShopCrackBerry and payola from the device manufacturers.
Have you tracked the number of levels of redirection of many of the advertisements fed through content delivery networks on this website? Display the actual content first and in the background display the advertisements if CrackBerry can do nothing else to improve the experience.
This is why I finally quit using the PlayBook completely. All i ever did with it was use the browser. Sadly, All of the sites I frequent have ads out the yin yang and it makes for a horrible experience with the PlayBook.
I now use this site mostly on my rooted Nexus 4. Adaway is awesome and its free for us rooted users. Adaway removes the ads at the host. That means any browser or app is completely ad free. Makes for a great browsing experince on the phone. Without it I would be stuck using the site on mobile version only or stick with only using it from the PC. So in my opinion, me blocking ads on my phone is a non issue, because if it weren't for my ad blocker I wouldn't be using the full sites anyway.
I'm hoping BB10 gets options for blocking ads. If not, I'm not sure how enjoyable the browsing experience will be.
This. Or just use the Crackberry app.
I been following cb for the last past two years now and I honestly can't remember the last time I've visited their original site. This is mainly due to the fact that 90% of the time I'm here it on depressingly slow wifi. No way around this problem but mobile CB dot com.
However I'm looking forward to their BB10 CB ap.
I don't think it's over-dramatic. I browse the various forums I am a member of on my Playbook (one of it's main uses) and CB is far and away the worst for ads. It looks like a porn site, but with BB products instead. I love the forum, but the site design is torture on the eyes.
A pornographic website featuring BlackBerry products for BlackBerry addicts. You have quite the imagination. ROFLAMO
I would pay if it would speed up the loading process...even on my computer CB can be a bit slow :(
never. abp on chrome and cb app on my pb.
I just use Chrome and install these two extensions:
1. Ad Block / Ad Block Plus
2. Poper Blocker
I haven't gotten a single advertisement on CB or any website (including Facebook) and no pop ups.
CB loads FAST. And on top of that, CB is USEABLE again. Meaning, I don't have to pack a lunch to scroll down the webpage because all these damn ads take up 3/4 of the page...
I agree that it's slow. I just thought the "it's the worst on the net" comment was a little 'over the top'. ;-)
