Seriously, if the "real" Bold replacement doesn't have this, I will be very disappointed.

I think RIM needs to work on fixing the existing bugs before creating new ones.

    +100 Thank you.

And to the OP, if you're referring that T-Mobile gets that, then that will be the year 3010.

    Agreed

They are packing the phones too tight

Give me a 9000 size phone, and put a bigger processor in it, I can have a bigger battery to make up for the extra juice drain, and a forward facing camera can be reality!

Actually unless they are trying to broadcast HD video from the phone it is very possible. I remember several years back haveing a small web confrencing camera on my comp when I only had like a 500mhz k6-3. So i can't imagine that even the current bold couldn't support it. I would even go as far as saying they should have two camera's one specifically for video confrencing and then like an 5-8mp for pictures.

I totally agree with the size thing. I would love an optical trackpad but won't give up my 9000 because of the size. I know several people with the 8900 and it is just to small in my hands.

They need to beef up the processor, add whole bunch of memory(or just use all of the memeory in the bold for apps) and uping the camera and video confrenceing.

All Mobile Phone Manufacturers have patented designs with Cameras on both sides of the device. (Including Apple) While it may work on 3 g I think most are waiting for 4G upload/download bandwidths. So look at late this year and see if S3 or Tour 3 (if their will be such an animal) has it since VZW will be the only 4G in the America's. Or maybe they will offer it on some of the other countries that have 4G networks already.

Personally I would not want this.

There used to be loads of phones in the UK which supported this, nobody seemed to bother though. Personally I've only made 1 3g call and that was to somebody on the other side of the office. Once you get over the "I can see you while on the phone" novelty you'll go back to standard calls.
Might be a nice thing to have for apps like MS Messenger, or Skype (Is there Skype for Blackberry?)

Agreed we've had video calling for a while now, and once the novelty has worn off it's not really that useful.

I'm pretty sure most of the current devices could support it if RIM had wanted to include it.

Well, it's been around for years. There was even the network named Three which tried to capitalise on video calling way back in 2003, video calling being the main reason to get a 3g phone. It didn't take off and now you almost hear nothing of it.
Although I did hear some of those telephone numbers you can call late at night now support it.
I guess it's just like the internet, the porn industry is leading the way.
I can't post links yet but do a google search for "The Internet is for Porn" and hit "I'm feeling lucky"

Trust me, video calling has been over here at least 7 years, initially there was a flurry of excitment, with some carriers even allowing free video calls under peoples normal inclusive voice allowance, it really didn't take off, as mentioned 3mobile led the way with their 3G network back then and their focus on data and video usage, still, after all this time people still just don't use it, I had my N95 for 18 months and made one video call in that time.

It may increase in popularity once the quality of the front mounted cameras and video feeds improves drastically, but for the forseeable future I can see it remaining a little used feature, I certainly don't miss it on the Bold.

How about mounting the camera on a swivel so it can face either front or back? No reason to choose which one you want then...

its very possible... the LG Shine offers video confrence and the processer on that phone does not compare to a blackberry.
