I am not sure if MS actually has patents on these things.

But in Windows 8.1 pc versions, it is possible to close apps by swiping down from top to bottom.

Of course, you might say that it is the same as accessing setting menu.

But in Windows, swiping down half way opens up the settings menu, and swiping down all the way closes the app.

And we can have the same gestures for BlackBerry 10 too.

Right now, we first have to swipe up to minimize the app first and then press on the X to close the app. And I would rather do swipe down to close.

Of course, we can still keep the option to minimize then close app that we have currently too in addition to the new swiping down to close option.

    What do you think?

What BB 10 really needs is a close all button instead even more clunky swipe gestures.

No, gestures work better because you don't have to aim your finger on a specific spot of the screen.

It is the same reason that I hate using phones with a tiny home button on the bottom after getting used to BlackBerry 10.

Having said that, close all option is necessary too, and we can implement that by long holding an "x" on the task manager.
    No need for another button.

Agreed... I like the swipe down feature from 8.1. It works effectively.

It does work effectively, and it could be adopted for BB10.

Perhaps it is the only thing about Win 8.1 that works effectively. Maybe BlackBerry and Microsoft could trade the best of each platform, but BlackBerry might get the short end of the stick ;-) I appreciate cruising on our BlackBerry devices more every time I have to use my new laptop. I really wish my laptop could speak BB10, with the logical flow, intuitive UI, and productive outcome. I've been using 8.1 for 6 months, and the disjointed sequences and buggy functions still exhaust me.

Do you really need that extra gesture? Using a Q10 I rarely have any issues hitting the X to close it. And the risk that you could close an app unintentionally from putting phone in pocket or something seems to outweigh the minor benefit. IMO

No I want Windows to adopt swipe up to close. Years of PlayBook training have left me helpless with my Win 8 laptop.

Wrong, you liked the WebOS version of running and closing apps. They did it first, and they did it better. Thank you

That said, closing apps like Windows 8 is something I would love. So much more simple.
