So last week I was at a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
My Curve on Bell didn't have service (I don't know why, My mom's 9700 on Telus did), so I had the radio turned off. I hadn't been using it, So I had it turned off completely and for the last few days kept it in the safe. I only took it out once, and that was to charge it the day before I left. I put it immediately into the safe when it was done.

yesterday when I was almost finished packing, I could not find it. It was not in the safe, which I was absolutely sure I had left it. My mom did start packing first, but she didn't recall seeing it. We checked every inch of that room, after which we assumed it must have been in the bags (I can't think of anything else that could've happened, and I didn't think it would've been taken from the safe).

Got home today, it was not in any of the bags. I have no Idea where it is.

I had put a password on it, but I didn't do any encrypting and i didn't take out the SD card. I called Bell and had them disconnect it so if it is stolen I don't get charged.

I believe that since it was password protected, after ten attempts they would have no choice but to wipe it, safely removing my information (I just changed my email and Facebook passwords to be safe, and It never remembered my banking password). I do have pictures, music, and videos on the sd card, but they aren't a priority or confidential. Well, except for the porn which sort of reveals my preferences

I can't honestly think of any way this would end up affect me worse then if my phone had simply been obliterated in a firey deathball. I have been looking for a cheap replacement (a used 9360 is listed for $150, a 9790 is listed for $120, etc there's not much selection in Kijiji lethbridge). I think I could hold over until the launch of BB10, but I was hoping to wait until my contract was cheaper to renew.

You should be fine, phone will get wiped after 10 tries unless your password was qwerty or 12345. Not sure if it wipes the SD hard.

lol should I change my password from qwerty? I didn't realize it was a common one...

It is to bad you had the radio turned off, BBprotect would have come in handy, if yo had it installed. Did you have it set to show an owner name and a phone number where you could be reach if it was found?

No I didn't I was going to use BBprotect to add an alert message, but i can't remember my BBid password.

I didn't get any service in DR anyways, so it would've been a moot point, especially given the 9360's battery life.

At this point I'm just trying to find a decent replacement. I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want to leave Blackberry quite yet.

personal info wise, you're some waht screwed. If you dont have password protect on your SD card, whoever got your phone could take it out and extract any hot pic you got in there

I am looking on Kijiji. So far i found a few 9360s and 9790s for around $150 and I responded to the ads with questions. May take a few days to get an answer from them.

I believe this is my cheapest solution. a new 9360 is $350 from Bell. Other smartphones are much more expensive. I still have 23 months on my contract so an early upgrade or cancellation is not feaseable.

So far my options seem to be either a 9360, 9790, or 9810. The person with the 9810 is already corresponding with me, an it seems the nicest one.

9810 is not a bad phone. Maybe the management stole the phone. I have seen that happen once. Lol, porn xD

    Anyway, all the best

My suggestion is that you get a feature phone and run your life on till bb10.

Of those 3 choices the 9810 is your best choice speed wise. The 9790 is a good choice also.

My mistake, it was a 9800. The ad didn't specify and I assumed it was a 9810. After a few emails that was clarified

Today I'm going to spend finding out all of my options, and AMA travel insurance may cover the price of the phone.

You should be able to get a new 9320 from Bell for $150. It's actually a decent phone.

I stand corrected, Bell doesn't carry the 9320 and Virgin pumped the price up to $200!

You could get the phone through Telus still for $150 and you can get it unlocked for free at freemyblackberry.com

You should be able to replace that porn pretty easily. I wouldn't sweat it.

On a serious note I feel your pain. There isn't much worse than looking your smartphone. My life is on mine. I would be lost.

So I'm now using my mom's old 9700. It's usable, but it's a few steps back compared to my 9360. I'm still looking for better replacements, but at this point unless it's a 9900 or something better, it's not really worth it for me to buy an upgrade. But I also can't afford to spend $500+ on a new phone.

This might've turned out to be a good thing. Out of fustration I posted my contract on Kijiji, and someone actually wanted to take it over!

I'm now 100% free of any contract with Bell, so I'm free to get a L-series at launch if I want to.

But what i intend to do is get a 9790 from Koodo. Koodo's plan is $10 cheaper than what I was paying Bell while being better, and with the tab system my upgrade/cancellation fee will never be over $150. So I can wait for a second generation BB10 device, or until Koodo FINALLY carries BB10 (they're slow to get new handsets).

Have you check here on the CB marketplace ? There seem to be some good deals for the 9900's.

The next BB you get, you really should use encryption set to strongest, and use a very strong password with it. Also, do check out the marketplace as mentioned above, there are usually good deals there.

    Final Update:
Out of frustration I posted my contract onto Kijiji (like craigslist but nicer), and someone in Montreal took it over!
I just transferred my phone number to a bell prepaid temporarily so I could keep my number, then i bought a Bold 9790 from Koodo online
Koodo has an awesome plan (for Canada), and with the tab my ETF and renewal fee will never be over $150 (compared to $600 and $300 on Bell, even AFTER 11 months!)
I just got it in the mail and activated it, and am just waiting for the number port to finish.
