In Windows Mobile or Android, when I press call button and type a short sequence of numbers, my phones will auto list all contacts and call histories (missed calls, dial calls, receive calls) that contain that sequence of numbers I have just typed. For example, if I press 085, the phone will list all contacts and call histories that contain 085 like 085xxxxxxx, 0xxxxx85xx, 0x8xxxxx5 or +xxxx80xxx5..., ect. That is used when some strange numbers call me and I'm not free to answer but I only remember some parts of those numbers so when I want to call back, it's easy to find. In addition, when somebody asks me who is the owner of the number and I can press some parts of number to find the contact's name very fast. So in OS7, how to search Contact name and call history by typing number?

OS7's universal search is basically what you are looking for. however, it doesnt look in your contacts via numbers, only by letters or names.

on the homescreen, click the magnifying glass to begin your search.

Yea, this feature is very important, RIM should do something to solve this asap, as it was an advantage to find a number which was not saved in the contact list...!!

Why not just scroll your call log? Number should be there.

Open messages folder, hold alt and press O for everything outgoing or I for everything incoming, calls included and all in chronological order.
