I think BBM is the best messaging app out there with its ability to video chat and check whether the message has been read, etc.

BUT I can't use it since non of my friends actually use that app.

If you are a long time BlackBerry user, you probably have other friends who has used bbm from 2008 or so, but for new BlackBerry users like myself, I don't have any of my friends on BBM.

It is so annoying because I have to use different messaging apps for different friends from Kakaotalk, Facebook, etc.

Maybe BBM is more popular in other parts of the world, but here in North America, I have not met one person using BBM.

It was same here, none of my friends really used it, but I got many people to download it and many loved it some tried it and deleted it. But I still do use it almost on the daily basis.

I use BBM almost exclusively for chats. I have only two people I chat to on SMS; one because her Android is too old and slow for BBM, and the other, in Australia, who doesn't have a data plan. Everyone else is on BBM. It didn't used to be like this but everyone I know who moved away from BlackBerry devices are now back on BBM.

I only use BBM. I've forced all of my friends to at least give it a try. It's been pretty successful. Even though some have deleted the app since, and most people only use it to talk to just me - they still use it cuz I force them too haha. I have about 61 people that are still active on it that are cross platform.

The trick is, I tell them I don't pay for text messaging so it's the only way they can get in touch with me (even though I do). And if they ask for me to use another app, I tell them BlackBerry doesn't have it (even though they do).

The sales pitch sounds like this: "would you download a free app and then subscribe $20/mo to talk to people? Well that's what you're getting with adding texting on your phone plan". And I'm pretty successful with getting people to realize that valid point.

Next, I force them to be active by keeping conversations going and bombarding them with fun stickers haha

I'm a very heavy IMO user and continue to get people on it. In fact just now walked my neighbor through installing it on her iPad.

I still use BBM. However, most of my friends prefer to text. All chat apps are generally tossed aside after the initial newness of them wears off. We have a GroupMe chat because we started this mentoring group in 2011; we then just stuck to it pretty much. I guess we got a little over-zealous in thinking we'd use it religiously. Not the case.

I'm trying to get everyone to switch over to BBM. But I have a feeling that it will just be another discarded chat app. Old habits and all

Every day in Ontario, Canada. My list got super thin until it went cross platform. I have one good friend who says BBM on Android burns through his battery so he rarely uses it.. hopefully they can improve battery efficiency as not every phone can be as awesome as my Z30

All of my contacts are on BBM. This includes people on iphones, ipods and Android and obviously Blackberry (all BB10's, no legacy). I no longer receive text messages from anyone. - I'm in southern Ontario, and so are all my contacts.

I prefer the interface if BBM over everything else that is out there.
I still use WhatsApp because there are friends that don't use BBM. I currently have 73 contacts in BBM and use it as my primary messaging tool.
