It was showing the amount of time it takes for my browser to go to the home page....
The home page never showed up though. Anyway, it isn't normal and it shouldn't take that long. My assumption is that the network was experiencing problems.

I'm only on EDGE service and I can load the ESPN mobile web page in about 10 seconds or less. Something's wrong if you can't even load your home page with full EVDO service in less time.
Well, then you need to call your service provider and make sure your account is properly provisioned. There is definitely something wrong if it takes over a minute to load your home page every time you try, especially on EVDO.
