How much dough can TCL bring to bear on their objectives?
Knowing how much money they have will help to scope what their objectives might be.

    Forbes Welcome

Although the company founding date is incorrect, they actually started back in 1981.

    For November, yes.

They sold 80 million devices last fiscal year, and project just under 70 million for this year.

The structure of the large long-running Chinese companies are sometimes complicated. TCL seems to consist of 3 public companies.

The part that makes mobile phones is called TCL Communication Technology Holdings, Ltd and is listed on the HKSE. That division looks to be have done about $3.5B last year in mobile phones and related business: TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited

Overall the company did about $12B in 2014? But I can't seem to find a more recent report.

Interesting note: they also bought the PALM brand for use in smartphones. I don't think they've done anything interesting with that yet?

More than likely they are just buying it from HP to avoid getting sued:

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone (Western markets) was down this year. Samsung Note 7, iPhone 7 (waiting for 8), etc. We're at that point where hardware and software are so good that people are taking longer to upgrade, imho.

TCL simply bought the name Palm from HP, branding rights. The HP sold the software, webOS, to LG a few years ago. ,

    No, I trust you.

Just didn't see a reason HP could sue TLC for branding rights infringement...Now for IP infringement, sure. But TLC didn't buy any IP.

    Cheers!
