OP, there is really no "crippling" in getting the bb with AT&T. You can use the GPS with other 3rd party apps.

I've never seen any blackberry that had a limit to ringtone size, that includes the 9700 on AT&T.

You can indeed uninstall the bloatware, though the service books will still be pushed to your phone, as with EVERY other carrier out there.

I don't know of any blackberry that doesn't allow you to dl 3rd party apps, but if there is one, it's not the 9700.

Youre nit picking about a ringtone size and reordering a menu on a dumbphone, which has what exactly to do with Blackberry?

And no one knows who did what to the Backflip, to say otherwise is merely an assumption at best.

General hatred and fist pounding at ATT is a separate topic from this one about Blackberries and ATT.
One last time: AT&T cripples their dumbphones and other smartphones (Symbian, Windows Mobile and now Android), so it was not presumptuous to expect they'd cripple features on BlackBerry too. If AT&T doesn't cripple BlackBerrys, then nice surprise! And that was the whole point of this thread.
