    Hi all,

    First post round here as after quite a bit of research, I decided you were the best guys around to help me out in a decision.

    Let me explain first, I'm an ashamed owner of an LG KP 501 crappiest touchscreen ever I guess.
    I'm therefore looking for a replacement, and lets face it, the Storm2 helped me out wanting to change... Don't know why, but for some reason I fell in love with that phone... Design is great, surepress seems a great idea... My problem is that here in France, you ain't able to test it. Those guys at mobile stores just never ever let you try a phone if it's not already out of the box... like Iphones...

    Anyway, I was thinking about buying one, but then thought that if I had to go with a phone for 2 years, I'd better choose wisely. So Here was I, looking around for smartphones, trying to figure out which would suit me best. At some point I just realised I'b better ask some specialists as I wasn't able to choose... )

    So here I go with what I want:

    * a phone... obviously...
    * a nice touchscreen
    * good web browsing experience
    * nice email interface
    * easy to use on screen keyboard as I love texting...
    * nice multimedia experience (want to use it in my car as a mp3 player)

    Plus, just to let you know a bit about me, I'm a complete geek... I love to go in depth with my gizmos and do stuff you ain't supposed to with them...

    So I'd like to access my home computer through my cell phone via FreeNX, is that possible with BB??
    What about the torch browser thing.. Is that ever coming out?? can't seem to find any infos...
    What about Flash support??

    I've heard lots of contradictories informations about the Storm2 It has been said that the browser was crap, that the surepress was a bit strange and sometimes went just very wrong...

    I have to admit that in the first place I was like "well I want a BB Storm2, I don't want to be like all those people buying an Iphone just 'cause it looks good" but I have to say that I'm really hestiating now... Should I really go with the BB or should I look at the Iphone closely....

    Please help me getting my head around all that I can't seem to get all the pros and cons and decide...

    Thanks a lot for your help.

    And excuse my french... P

    Given your list of "wants" your best choice is the iPhone 3GS. There is not a single
    BlackBerry that will perform better for the list you provided (except for email).

    Yes, I know that is odd to hear on this site and probably odder to hear from
    a Moderator but that is the best advice as far as I am concerned.

    Getting you to a BlackBerry would be nice. Getting you to the right phone
    would be even better.

    Thanks for the honest reply...
    What would be better on an iphone that on a BB??

    Web browsing? (that should get better on a BB no?)

    What in my list made you advise the iPhone?

    The browser is superior
    The BB cannot touch the iPhone with respect to multimedia. The iPhone is designed
    for it. For the BB it is an afterthought
    The touchscreen on the iPhone is simply better in all regards.
    Texting on the iPhone is a joy, on the Storm / Storm 2, not so much.

    As to the BB browser getting better, it is playing catch up. While RIM is catching up
    all the other devices will continue to pass them by.

    Well I have to say I'm completely disapointed..

    I wanted that Storm2 Badly, but it just seem to not be the right thing for me...

    On the other hand I don't think I want an iPhone... too much hype around it...
    And jailbreak stuff is just too much for me... I don't want to use something so closed (I'm a linux user... )

    Windows mobile is ruled out... So I guess I'm left with Android phones... But I don't really like the look of those...
    I know I'm complicated....

    Regarding Multimedia, when you say it's an afterthought, do you mean the official software is not that good, but is there replacements out there that can be used to enhance the experience?

    When I say"afterthought" I mean the BB was never designed for it and it was only
    added (with the Pearl 8100) to appeal to the consumer (as opposed to the business)
    market. It is limited and honestly not very good.

    There are several 3rd party apps that extend the capability such as FlipSide,
    MiuTunes, xPlayer (multimedia players) and Slacker, Pandora, FlyCast, Wunder,
    (streaming radio) but nothing that comes close to the built in experience of the
    iPhone or Android Devies.

    Thank you Bluz. I know we are a BB site but I think we do a disservice to people
    when we give less than objective or kneejerk advice.

    The BB is an awesome device but the fact is it is not the right device for everyone.

    I agree. Apple made the iPod as a multimedia device. When they slapped a phone into it, it became the iPhone. Thus, it is predominantly a multimedia device with an attached phone.

    The blackberry, on the other hand, is a communication device to facilitate interaction between business users (e-mail is the primary feature). The multimedia stuff was slapped on so that non-business consumers would be interested in buying blackberries.

    How about if I tell you I'm not that much into Multimedia, I mean I'll use it as a really simple MP3 device for use in my car...

    And what about the VNC FREENX use... would that work on the BB?
