hey

ok so i have had my blackberry 8330 for about 8 months and its just starting to get hot randomly when its not on the charger. what does that mean?

It's probably due to your battery! Get a new one and see if that stops it from being hot

It could be but like SG said I would try the battery first.

It's definitely a battery fault. I mean the only time heat is common is when charging, but if it's not charging then you SHOULD not have any problem with heat. Your phone is still under warranty, no?

Also depends if you have a ton of running apps going on.

That could also be a factor.

I find that my BB gets hot when I run the GPS for a long time. If any of the radios are active for long periods of time, it might cause the BB (or battery) to get hot. So if you are running any type of IM or GPS application in the background, it may be causing the heat.
