How the monkeys does muy Blackberry know if my phone is in the holster (pouch) or not? This amazed me last night.

Like if the phone is in the holster with keylock on, when the phone comes out the holster it brings the phone to life. Its so cool.

As the Chaz man said, magnet-magic. Scan a small magnet (not the ones that pick up cars) below your keyboard...

    ...magic!

i still think there are little gnomes in my holster that turn my phone on and off...much more believable than some "mystery magnet"

Even right down to the little details of making sure it lights up for you when taken out of the Holster. Now you know why BB is #1, "it just works".

That feature amazed me too when I first got my BB... but then by pressing my fingers all over the holster, I could feel the magnet underneath. Kinda cool idea that no other phones have thought of.

Why is the holster curved the way it is?
It's like its curved so you can still see something on the BB.
I thought it might be the indicator light, but the curve is on the wrong side.
    Any ideas?

This was disturbing to me as well.
I love the curve since it's so thin, but the holster adds bulk in my pocket.

I reassigned the PTT button (which I don't use) on the side to be the 'lock keys' command. That also turns off the screen.

True, I have to unlock the keys when I want to use it again, but thought this was worth posting as an alternative to using the holster. (since the red button doesn't turn off the screen like it did on my Treo).

Noob here, so excuse me if this has already been posted.

Andy - what do you mean "cuved"?

on the inside it has 2 indents; one on the front and one on the back. For the trackball it seems RIM don't mind which way you put it in.

TfD - locking doesn't protect it though, does it?

obviously no, but my pocket does - and I use a screen guard
I had the same treo for three years with no problems, no screen scratches.
